Following on from the why park so close thread, why do people have to park on the pavement when there is no need?

I have just been for a walk and there was a car parked blocking the entire pavement on a wide road. It was obviously someone who wanted to park right outside their house despite the fact that there was a car parked opposite it. The houses on this road all have drives and there were no other cars parked anywhere else on the road.

AHHHH! I wanted to squeeze past and scratch the car with the buggy

This annoys me too, when a car is parked on the path and i have to push the buggy onto the road to get round it!

I have to put my hand up for this one!!!

Since we moved back with OHs parents there is no room on their drive (they have 3 cars and a truck between them!) so i have to park on the pavement, this is only because the road they live on is SOOO busy with cars parked outside the houses, i park half on the pavement so other cars can get past, that is the only reason, there are some cars that park bang on the road (bearing in mind nearly all the way up the road there is cars parked on both sides!) and it is sooo difficult for me to get past in my car (i only have a corsa!).

so sorry girls :(

In that situation I can understand it, but this was a wide road and if they had just parked outside the next house they could have parked on the road. :wall:

I frequently pull up on the pavement, as I already have to buy wingmirror replacements on a regular basis, the road's too narrow.

i had a guy drive up on the pavement comin towards me tryin to park as i was walkin with newborn jamie in his pram, he got a mouthful of obscenities and reversed his car pretty sharpish

I can understand if there is room to get past. But i hate walking on the road with a pushchair if i can't get through. Especially round here when most are wide roads. Doesn't bother me if it's a quiet road.

There's a garage round the corner that does this - one road it is on (it's on a corner) you can park on, the other there are double yellow lines. I don't get why they park on the pavement - it's no more legal than parking on the yellow lines !!! I have complained as sometimes I have to take the pushchair on to the road and they say they try to avoid it but they blatantly don't! It's cars with their big for sale signs on so they can't just blame stupid customers. I'm going to start reporting them because I've had enough - is it a council thing? Who do I get in touch with?

contact the police, the local station. theres no excuse most of the time, for someone in a wheelchair it poses a real problem as they cant see over most cars to see if its clear to go out into the road to get round the car.
