Hi ladies, I keep seeing bits on this. My midwife hasn't mentioned it to me at all and I'm 28 weeks. So thought I'd ask here, what are the pros/cons? x
Not sure about cons but I'm of the view that we're lucky we live in a country with widespread access to vaccines. I think babies can still get whooping cough even if you've had the jab, but it significantly reduces the likelihood. Cannot imagine seeing a baby with an illness that can be easily prevented. At least if I've had the jab I'll know I did what I can. If they get it anyway it'll be utterly crap but I'll know there was nothing more I could've done. That's my view anyway xx
I've got mine this Friday.
Pro's - your baby will be either fully protected from whooping cough or suffer a much milder strain if infected. It covers them for the first 8 weeks of life until they get their own vaccinations. There was a big outbreak in 2012 where sadly there was a massive increase in the number of newborns dying/Suffering permanant damage from whooping cough.
Cons - no proven adverse effects (aside from sore arm etc) you will find the usual speculation and controversy surrounding any vaccinations during pregnancy, that of course makes us all worry (I know I am)
- but you just need to do what's right for you
Xxx
I totally forgot about this and midwife hasn't mentioned it! When are you meant to have it I can't remember? I will definitely be asking for it at my appointment on Thursday. Had it with my daughter and no issues x
I am really struggling with this decision. I have always been pro vaccine and was booked in to have it yesterday. Over the weekend I started reading into it and its left my head in a mess! My gut is telling me don't do it but how do I override my gut instinct and make myself go for it as my head is telling me that the consequences of not going for it could be fatal!
It's between 28 and 38 weeks you can get it ladies.
I am torn also - my mom had the jab when pg with me, I had the jab and I still got whooping cough. The fact that babies still get it after mum has had the jab makes me wonder how effective it really is. On the other hand, I think I would regret it if he got it and I didn't get the jab.
I had mine, but I know people who haven't. It's personal choice.
Like ear piercing that's always a big debate (I haven't got my daughters ears done).I always have vaccines, even the holiday ones. We went to Egypt and all five of us got the vaccines. My mum didn't be weirdly it voided her insurance.
