hi ladies, hope you are all well. sorry in advance for my long ranty post, i just dont know what to do!!!

everything had been going really well with lo regarding bedtime and weaning.... he had last bottle at 7pm max and usually slept till midnight, dreamfeed and then again at 4 or 5 am, up at 7 or 8 which i dont mind, he deffo is hungry when he wakes.

however..... my bedtime routine has gone to pot!!!!!! he just wont go to sleep, nothing has changed at all, bath by half 6, cuddles and bottles, he usually fights taking the milk so i presume he isnt hungry and he just wants to stay up and play!!! a few nights i left him in his cot and he got soo wound up that i brought him in with us and he was fine, watched tv, calm, as soon as he goes back in his cot...nightmare!!!!

so basically he goes to sleep when he decides, lastnight he had a feed at 10, straight to bed and slept till 6, which i wont complain about cos for him 8 hours is amazing!!!

he has 2 naps in the day about an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon so i dont think he is sleeping too much in the day which is why im so suprised he isnt knackered by bedtime, i keep lunch and dinner at the same time every day... 12 and 5pm.... usually by half 6 he couldnt wait to get to bed now he hates it.....

im running out of ideas... do i keep him up?? sometimes hes quite happy just to play by himself in his cot but i feel bad leaving him there, lol.

im so fixed on the idea on having a set routine and when i read about everyones routines i just keep thinking "why not me" lol. he bottle feeds on demand but lateley has been taking one early morning feed, milk with his solid breakfast and then a feed at "bedtime" whenever that is.... im going out of my mind!!!

does anyone have any suggestions?! one of my friends just told me to go with the flow and maybe a later bedtime is a better idea as he sleeps longer?? i just dont know.... =(((

Maybe just go with the flow. I put Isla to bed anytime between 7-8, always lie her down, mobile on and out the room. She falls asleep on her own within ten minutes. It hasn't always been like this, there were tears, screaming etc but she soon realised I wasn't going to let her get her own way. I love her to bits but she's a grumpy bugger if she doesn't go to bed when she's tired.

I don't do a routine, bath is every other night, dinner is when she's hungry.
Hope this helps
Emma xx

Hiya,

I know u said u don't think he is getting too much sleep in the day, but zac has been doing the same recently and I have started limiting his afternoon nap to about 40 mins and it seems to help.

Good luck xxx

i would leave him in his cot to play he will eventually go to sleep because he will be burning excess energy x
or
put him to be at 10 for a couple of nights then when thats is goin well bring it dow by half hour x

thanks for the advice ladies. i cant actually belive it. lastnight i follwed my usual "routine" and he had an 8oz bottle and was asleep by 7. by about 9 i was suprised he hadnt woken. at 10 he woke and started to whimper a bit so i left him and just stroked his head etc and he went back to sleep! my friend uses HIPP oragnic nighttime milk for her lo once a day at bedtime and she reccomended it to me, i had a free sample from them to make up at 6oz bottle, so at 11 (even tho he was still asleep!) i gave him a dream feed with this 6oz HIPP and he slept till 5!!!! when he woke he was restless and OH got up to do his bottle and i knew he wouldnt take it, he had 1oz, and slept till 9 this morning!!!!! i cant believe it!!! im sure maybe if he has a 8oz of that HIPP nighttime milk at like 11, he may sleep through... i havent been able to get hold of it though in my local boots but want to give it a try!! im hoping tonight will go ok.... i will update.

thanks again for those who replied i really do appreciate it!!!! =))

Drake has been like this lately, he has his last bottle at the same time every night and is struggling to drink it all. Sometimes he'll fall asleep after 2oz and I'll try for an hour to get more down him which results in him fully waking up and being hyper in bed for an hour! Thing is if he doesn't fall asleep then he still doesn't have much milk and it still takes him a while to nod off. I'm just leaving him to it though, Im thinking that maybe ita cos they're learning many things right now and on the go constantly that maybe their bodies can't shut off properly for bed time? He has a terrible cold right now though so had a really bad night last night, so I guess our routine is out the window till he's better bless him.
