I work as a .... and I left my rotation yesterday, as I rotate to different hosp to start a new one, and I was given baby clothes. I'm 13 weeks, and that seems pretty early to me! However for Christmas, I was given baby clothes by my sis in law, when I was only 8 weeks, I was like 1) waaaay too early, and 2) I wanted a present for me not for baby!!!!!

Anyone else had similar experience? I thought 8 weeks was too early! But hey at this rate I wont need to buy any clothes

I went out and bought a lil outfit from next yesterday, i really couldn't resist it, its a lil cow outfit. Sooooo cute.

If i see something that i like then i will buy it, because i'm that fussy when it comes to baby clothes i rarely find things i like.

I think clothes wise it was after my 20 week scan although earlier I'd bought a couple of cuddly toys and some equipment (sterilizer etc) oh and a pair of lion pop ons coz they were cute.

This time round errr nuffin! Not a thing, poor child with the hand me downs :rotfl:

Christmas
when i was up North for xmas me my mam and sister when into Newcastle my Mam bought some stuff for the baby.
So it wasnt techniclay me buying.
The first time was 3 weeks ago i bought some baby clothes in the Jan sale from Adams only a few things though. I also got am cute baby book
As im getting most of my stuff from my 1 and a half year old niece and nephew.
Ive tried very hard no to give into temptation

Didn't start buying clothes till after my 20 week scan and even then I only bought 6 baby grows and a few other bits and pieces bibs etc, not going to buy much else. My sis got bought loads when she had her baby and my niece didn't get to wear a few outfits before she grew out of them, so don't really want to end up in the same position.

Bought other stuff before my 20 week scan like steraliser but don't think I started buying stuff till about 16 weeks.

I agree 8 weeks is a bit early and for Christmas also, I would have been disappointed too.

I bought one pair of booties a week before my 12 week scan. I couldn't resist. After the 12 week scan I bought a few bits, especially some in the sale - i.e a steriliser and breast pump. Then after my 20 week scan i went and bought our travel system. Lol.

It does seem a bit early to be getting bits as presents! And i know what you mean about xmas, i got a baby set that i didn't particularly like anyway (makes me sound ungrateful) when i was hoping for something for me. lol.

i got some breast pads a 2 weeks ago, it was ll we could handle before havign to elave the baby aisle in Tescos screaming in terro.

Took a baby room thermometer form work at 8 weeks (they were trying to get rid of a couple so thought i would).

And got loads of clothes last night with more baby stuff promised.

started buying maternity wear at 7/8 weeks.

The earliest I went and bought something was when i had had the 20 week scan done.

Though parents bough stuff and i told them to keep it a their house.

  A year before we started trying. They were cute booty slippers and I found a matching pair for me

Then when we had the 12 week Nuchal scan that said everything was fine I went mad in Next sale and got outfits for 50p when they were originally £7!

OH wasn't comfortable with me buying things before the 12 week scan so I was very good. Err, that's a lie. I just checked email receipts and I started buying reusable nappies at 9 weeks

Everyone has a different time that is right for them as everyone feels differently. I am getting worried now as I still don't have everything for baby. We need a cot, bedding, a mobile, nail clippers and the thing for sucking bogeys out of their noses. But I love buying baby things and I want to choose everything and that is just my personal opinion. I don't want other people to buy things for my baby - I'd rather they gave us gift vouchers so that we can have the fun of choosing and get what we want. I get stressed because I know people will give us things we don't want. I'm very selfish about this :D

But others haven't started buying things for their baby yet.

Do what feels right to you.

With my little boy, I bought some 50 p socks from the market when I was around 8 weeks (I had got my best mate to scan me). I kept them as a secret until I told my sister last year. My son is now 5 lol

This time I bought a couple of items in a mothercare sales basket when I had only just found out. Spent about £2.00. Just to do something I think lol. Have never taken them out the bag since.

I bought a foldable moses basket and sleeping bag around xmas. And ordered my self sterlising mothercare bottles. As my local store is closing for a couple of months lol. And bought an amazing baby bath in the mothercare sale. I figured if things go wrong, I simply put them away or give them away. I am not funny about these things. Don't believe in the superstitions surrounding it all.

I am going to wait until after my 20 weeks scan before buying big, expensive items though. This is because these things can't just be packed away and are too expensive to just give away. So, this is where I wait lol

Have not bought baby outfits and so on. I will wait until summer when the clothes are the right season for the baby (don't mean fashion, just the weather lol)

Sophs x

I resisted till well into 2nd tri. My mother went a bit bonkers and bought practically all the baby clothes we will need in the first 6 months. I had to ask her to stop shopping in the end. Bless, she's excited to be a Gran :)

As for anything else, the only thing we currently have is a cot that was given to us.

Going to buy whatever else we need from March onwards.

I waited until I was 12 weeks and then bought a few clothing items at a nearly new sale (as £1 here or there isn't going to break the bank!).

HOWEVER, I would definitely advise that if you are going to buy something, don't make it clothes! You will NOT need to buy clothes, probably. Friends and family will buy/give you SO much - even if you think they won't!! We have 2 dressers full of 0-6 months stuff now

We bought the pram and big stuff when I was 19 weeks (although OH thought we were tempting fate with the 20 week scan being a week later) and we've just finished buying all the scratty bits of junk like nappies, bottles etc. I think! Though no doubt there's loads I've forgotten about.

We had fun playing with the baby monitor. OH went upstairs and screamed like a baby into it and scared the life out of me :rotfl:

I haven't bought anything yet, but my parent's have. They bought a cute set from Tesco (sleepsuit, bodysuit, bib, hat, booties) and a comfort blanket, at about 13 week's. Then on monday my mum ordered a sleepsuit and bib set (a cow one, it's so cute) a fleece zip up jacket and a top and bottoms set all from next, they came on tuesday. My mum bought a pair a sock's from woolworths aswell. I already had a set of 3 sleepsuits and 2 hats from next that I bought the first time I was pregnant (got them the day after BFP  ). So I've got quite a few bits really, I love getting them out and looking at them.

oh thats the cow one i bought this week...... sooooo cute

though i know i'll get bought loads of clothes and whislt iv already been given two boxes of barely worn baby clothes from relatives i STILL buy new ones all the time. i can help it. it's a compulsion.lol

It's adorable!! I was eyeing it up online for week's lol.

Awe, so nice to hear I'm not the only one who got things early on :D I have to say I was disappointed as we ordered our travel system last week and then today our good friend offered us hers as she's got 2 kids (3 years and 18 months) and not having any more. I wonder if we can un-order them and take up my friend's offer! That would save us quite a bit of money...
