When did you all start weaning?. Some people are telling me 6months and others are saying i should start giving her rusks or baby rice now. She is 17 weeks old and has had colic so i am concerned about giving her anything which will upset her.

I started my son on tries of food at about 18ish weeks then properly started I would say at about 19 and he's up to 2 meals a day at just over 21weeks. The NHS recommend 6months but lots of mums do it earlier for their own reasons. I think they say def not under 17weeks as digestive system still immature, but to be honest it is totally your call as mummy. You do what is right for you and your baby x

I started weaning at 4 months . My child is a human bin she would eat all day if she could xxx

If your baby is showing no interest in food then I would say wait a bit!! I weaned H at 17 weeks coz he has bad reflux but if he hadnt then I prob would have left it a bit!! Each baby is different!!!
xxx

Wait until your child tells you they are ready!! The official advise is 6months, Unless they have reflux or a medical reason for needing more calories.

We start G at 4.5months because she is constantly grabbing food from people, chewing and swallowing it. Some babies will be interested earlier, just as some are not ready till nearer 8months.

True signs your LO is ready for solids include sitting with little or no support, making chewing movements, putting things accurately into their mouth,

And the biggest one - grabbing food, chewing and swallowing it.

Do not be fooled into thinking that solids will help LO sleep, this is not necessarily the case. Also a lot of people view baby rice as empty calories, it's also quite bland, better to start with fruit/veg.

Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Thanks, my daughter isn't really showing any of the signs that have been mentioned. She watches us eat but that's it, she doesn't try and grab food. She is accurate at putting things in her mouth, also she makes chewing motions when she wants her bottle.
I think i will wait till she is 6 months or showing more signs.

Have you thought about whether you want to TW or BLW, the BLW Gill rapely book has some good info on readiness. X

Most babies will watch you eat of out curiosity x

I'd personally wait till she's actively trying to eat what you've got, and her colic has settled x

Sme babies are ready earlier, some later x

We started baby led weaning at seven months x

Hey chick,
Def wait untill your Lo tells you that they are ready. We started weaning at six months, but to be quite honest now, looking back he wasn't ready!!!! We should have waited until he was around 7/8 months. I remember feeling sooo much pressure from outsiders, saying 'why aren't you giving him solids'? You do what feels right for you and your LO. Some babies are ready to be weaned early, some late. You will know when your Lo is ready chick xxxx
