When to introduce finger foods?

My LO has just started to wean - he's had some purees (apple, sweet potato & parsnip) and baby rice so far.

But - when do you introduce finger foods. Don't wanna go to fast for him, but also don't wanna get to a point where he won't try lumpier stuff and the info I've looked up contradicts.

Somes says give finger foods straight away, others say wait til 7months.

What are your experiences?
