Hi,

I work full time and am really looking forward to my maternity leave! I am due 10 September, and was thinking i would work up until the end of July. (I'll be 34wks on 30/7)

Does that sound about right? I've got no idea how i'll feel then - never been pregnant before - and at the moment i still feel okay, and i'm not really even showing yet! I'm on my feet pretty much all day currently, and its getting quite strenuous. Work did mention today they would be doing a risk assessment soon (I gave them my MatB1 on Monday).

When do I have to give work my leaving date? I saw my midwife on Monday but she was rushed off her feet so i didnt want to ask her about it. Next time I see her will be my 28week appointment, and i'm worried thats might be too late to find out.

Thanks if you can help!

Hi Izzy
it will mostly depend on how your company will be about letting you rest, maybe changing your duties so you wont be on your feet?

i worked up to 38 weeks but i have a job where i sit most of the day. long hours though, 7.30 - 5.30. my sister did the same and she's a nurse

everyone kept telling me i was mad and i'd regret it when i got there but i can honestly say it was fine and i'm glad i didnt go earlier as it means you can take more time with baby :D i had a vairy uncomplicated pregnancy though and you just never know how you'll feel. ask your bosses if you can change your date (back or forward) nearer the time if you feel the need.

i'd try and wait till your assesment and see what they say. someone once told me to alwasy ask for more than you want then you can compromise and still get your own way

xx

That makes sense, thanks for your response )
I will see what happens in result of the risk assesment.

hey, i worked up to my due date!! i dunno how the hell i managed that thinking back on it!!! but with ur 1st baby you are usually late and i wanted all the time with ny wee 1, which im glad of now cos she was in SCBU for a month :( but this time im workin up 2 37 weeks!!! all depends on how big u r etc lol

Im leaving 4 weeks before im due...not sure if thats a good idea considering i work at argos and it involves dashing around!
So i leave 1st october (im counting the days)

Dont showing yet!! Lucky you. I am due 14th September and am starting mat leave on 11th August so as to have more time with l/o. But we are all different just depends on how you feel. I feel terrible at the mo and have never had the so called bloom!

oOo i work at Argos too Eblinx :) Only weekends though

Argh i hate it now, i used to love being in the stockroom picking the stock out the way of anything..but then i got trained and i started to get less time in there..now im pregnant i get like once in a blue moon in there!!
Oh and something else i hate..When you radio for help coz you have a massive q...whats the point because there is never anyone free to come and help anyways..

Ok moan over now :D

I cant wait untill i leave

Sounds just like where i work lol esp when you said no one is ever free to come help lol
I didnt like the stockroom plainly because people never help when your there they just sit on their bums twiddling their thumbs lol but then again working on tills isnt much better especially all the abuse you can get from customers!

Oh well suppose its money and when your pregnant you can hurl abuse back and get let off a little ligher
