Change Teats? Just Wondering What Makes You Decide You Need To Change Them To The Next Ones Up. Im Thinking Of Doing This But Want To Know If I Need To Yet. Lovella Is Gaining Weight Very Well But Sometimes Doesnt Finnish Her Feeds. I Cant Give Her Less oz's Because Sometimes She Drains The Lot.

I think its at 3months the teats have two holes in them (so they are medium flow) then again at 6months when they have three holes ( so they are fast flow)

You can get variable flow teats where the baby decides how fast or slow they want the milk to come out

Hope that helps :)

yeh its about 3 months, i never changed charlottes, it doesnt matter if she doesnt drain her bottles e verytime carly especially if ur putting over what she should be having at her age..

I've just changed Adam's to medium flow and he is managing fine. He has reflux and is taking Gaviscon with each feed which is making his milk harder to take. He was getting really grumpy and sleepy during a feed, so I decided to change. It might be worth a try and if you think she's not managing, then just switch back. xxx

Im Deffinately Not "Putting Over What She Should Be Having At Her Age" :? Do Your Research & You'll See Shes Having 1 oz LESS Than She "Should Be"

I think Lisa was just offering possiblities as to why Lovelia might have milk left. Why should she 'Do Her Research' on your baby when she's offering her feedback as you've requested in your post? :?

I would try the next teat up. If she's not ready for it, she'll cough and splutter and the flow will be too fast. At least then you'd know. That's how we did it :)

We put Isaac on the 6+month teats when he was 4 months and he was very happy with the change. The 3 and 6 month marks are guidelines, you can always buy the next teat size up and try her, there can be a bit of splutter as she adjusts but if you feel she's ready for a change then try her :)
I always tend to make more in a bottle for Isaac, even though he rarely finishes it all these days, I go on the rather too much than too little rule, to my pocket's expense I fear  Sounds like she's doing just great Carly, very best wishes

umm yes i was offering advise! especially as you asked previously about lovella going onto hungrier baby milk.. and everyone suggesting upping her ounces instead 1st to see if that worked.. so assumed that you agreed and were going to try that 1st.. no need to get so edgy!

just wanted to edit to say i thought last week when lovella was 7 weeks i saw you write this

She Has 6 Feeds In 24 Hours and They are 5oz Bottles But She Sometimes Leaves 1oz Maybe 2.
in general discussion..

By the time your baby is one month old, he will probably take 90-120ml / 3 or 4oz at each feed, and will consume anywhere from 400-800ml / 14 to 28oz in one day. You'll soon sense if your baby needs more - he'll finish the feed quickly and then look around for second helpings!

From the age of two months up to six months, you should be feeding your baby 120-180ml / 4-6oz at a feeding, and he'll have anything from 700ml to over a litre / 23 to 35oz a day.

Once your baby reaches six months, you can feed him anywhere from 180-220 ml / 6-8oz at a feeding, and his total formula intake should be roughly 900ml / 32oz per day.
quoted from http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/formula/howmuchmilk/

and 5oz time 6 feeds is 30oz in 1 day so she is consuming a lot if she drains each bottle. hense why i said dont worry because there is a normal range for a baby to consume for their age. as you can see above.

its up to you what you do with your baby, i gave you advise i didnt critasize your parenting skills or the size of your child, you know if she needs more feed, and by not draining bottles shes telling you she doesnt need it all..

We moved Ryan up to the next teat when he was about 3 and a half months... he was getting angry at the ones he had and was literally not getting any formula at all hardly but would practically refuse the bottle even though he was obviously hungry. When we watched him closer we could see the teat was all bendy in his mouth and he couldn't grip it properly, so that's why we moved up. The next size teat has been much better and he is still on those now.

i could tell when mine started to take longer than usual to have their feed, kayla usually takes about 15-20 mins to drink her feed but she started taking longer and was sucking twice as hard which showed that the teat was going too slow for her.

xxxx

We tried a medium flow teat yesterday and she ended up wearing almost her whole bottle and was still hungry after the bottle was finished.

I'll try again in another few weeks.

She Has 5oz Every 3 Hours Apart From Nighttime Coz She Sleeps Through.. So She Has 6 Feeds In 24 Hours But Like I Said Before, She Sometimes Leaves 1-2oz But Drains The Lot Most Feeds :) . Going By The Cow & Gate Tub, It Has a Guide On The Side, It Says For 2 Months Its 6oz and 5 Feeds In 24 Hours and Shes Almost 2 Months Old. Anyways, I Appologize For Jumping Down Your Throught Lisa I Read The Context Completely Wrong and Was Having a Bad Day. I Dont Know Why I Just Assumed Like That  Im Sorry Hun xx

Thanks For The Replies, Im Not Going To Change The Teats But I Remember Reading a Few Posts and The Advice Given Was To Change Teats So I Just Wanted To Know How You Know When The Time Is Right :)
