I'm 32 this year and it is my seventh cycle off BC, our 5th cycle TTC. My cycle is still a bit wonky, I thought that it finally normalized this cycle but turns out it's just as confused as always lol
I think it very much depends on your age, how long you have used the pill and of course what pill you used, your circumstances (are you stressed, depressed), your lifestyle (are you on a strict diet, strenuous exercise program), any health issues (PCOS, Endo, cysts etc.)...anything and everything can influence the time it takes for someone to conceive.
I think we have all gotten it in our heads that there is a certain time frame (like what they tell you, a year) and if you don't conceive in that time frame then there must be something wrong...mix that with impatience (because, heck, we are excited about starting or expanding our family, come on!) and we forget that even with healthy couples it can take much, much longer.
In a study they did they took 63 healthy women, between the ages of 18-40 years with what is considered "normal" cycles and tested them for ovulation - they found that 30% of those women didn't always ovulate every single cycle...mix that with the chance of fertilization (getting the timing just right and having mature sperm present) with the likely-hood of successful implantation and a healthy progressing pregnancy...is it no wonder that there are so many of us who just have to wait?
I consider those who get pregnant within a year extremely blessed. They had the perfect storm of circumstance where everything was perfect for conception and full term pregnancy.
It really is a miracle considering that pregnancy is over-all even possible. Guess that makes all of us living, breathing proof that miracles happen
