What tests are done now?

Hi,

Not been to the doctors yet(booked next week ), can someone tell me what tests are done now? And at what stage, thankyou .I'm 40 and would like to be armed and dangerous when i visit my GP

when you book in they take your bloods to test for all sorts..hiv, sickle cell, erm ant quite remember the rest, they do the triple serum to check how high your risk is for downs and neural defects eg spina bifida. if your high risk you can decide if you want an amnio to detect downs!

Sorry Lozzijane, i am pregnant, did a home test last week.

When are scans now done? Is it still just 2?

it depends where you live, some places just do the 1 at 20 weeks but some places give you an early/datig scan at around 12 weeks...most do 2 i think! i had 2..but they werent sure of my dates coz i conceived on the pill!

they test you for everything these days except sanity. which is why im on my 4th

Somehow i don't think i'll get to 4

This will definately be my last, and i'm suprised at this one

Congrats oldermum. I just want to say that here in Denmark most of the Mum's are older. I went for a pre section meeting today and I was the youngest by far at 33

Is it your second child or third?

tests I had were:

blood type test
hiv
anaemia testing
erm....a few others that they take blood for but I can't remember what now. they do them at the same time as the hiv test.

I only had 1 ultrasound aswell, at 21 weeks.
