I know now Ellie can start having what we have for tea, I just wondered is there anything that I should totally avoid giving her? Anything I should just give now and again? I know i should avoid foods with high salt/sugar in, thats just common sense really i think isnt it :) I know honey is one to be avoided?

What about when we have oven chips and things like that, what could I give her as healthier alternative ?

Thank uuuuu!!

oooo I wouldn't give lil miss chips..

Silly moo bag would end up choking on them  I don't think chips would pureé well... :puke: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

just give ellie what your having hun.. no probs.. they will get it anyway when they are older...lil miss even gets some plain ice cream for dessert if we are having it.. just a spoonful... didn't hurt her or anything, she wasn't overly keen though as it was cold  She actually prefers peaches in her baby feeder... If lil miss is eating with us we make up the food and before we add anything to it we put some aside..

Babies can have herbs and spices no problem, even pepper... I made lil miss some pumpkin and nutmeg and she LUUURVED it.. Other than runny egg, salt and honey you should be fine :)

Chips with donner meat and cheese. I wouldnt give her that,

Seriously though, there wasnt much I would have given Joe that we ate at meal times. Im trying to think..............., nope cant think of anything. Unless it was a salty thing. Getting him to eat was a different thing.

Hey Jo,

We just make sure its healthy and usually give her extra veg (as we are terrible and don't eat much veg). This week she's had h/m fish and chips (home battered plaice and potato wedges), chilli with chopped real chillis, sausage casserole, veg lasagne, macaroni cheese etc etc.

I wouldn't give her anything premade in a factory (like a sandwich or a ready meal) unless I was 100% sure it didn't have any cr*p in it or anything like chocolate sauce or sweet sugary or salty thing - apart from that, she's got a fairly adult diet (and adult poos unfortunately!)

So what about when we use oxo or herbs in things, are they ok? I aint a clue! When we make a casserole the lazy way with a packet mix thing, what do i need to look for to make sure its ok for her or does it need to be from scratch?

Ideally I want to get her eating what we eat so its easier for us all & i'd be happier knowing exactly what she was getting,

Hey luv,

I don't use Oxo, but now she's a year, I use Veg Bouillion low salt (in a tub next to stock cubes) in soups and casseroles etc - before that, we just used water and food was quite plain.

Herbs are absolutely fine and can be used from 6 months. Great way to get her used to lots of different flavours. Other seasonings are fine too.

I wouldn't use a packet mix now and have stopped buying them - i.e. for sausage casserole, we just used passata, chopped onion, garlic, tom puree, chopped peppers and courgettes - there really isn't anything in a packet mix that would have added to that, even though we used to use them all the time - weaning has been good for us!

Yeh we're hoping weaning will nudge us to make sure we're eating well too.
So when we're doing anything like oxo i spose we can do her a seperate one without it in. We've never made a casserole before so bought a packet mix when we went shopping to try and see if we like first.

We really want a cook book that has simple home cooked recipes like casseroles, hot pots, lasagne, etc. All the ones we have looked at seem to have really extravegant dishes that we just wud never cook!!

Thanks chick for tips :D will let you know how we get on xx

We're about to start Evie on our food... last night she had some mashed chicken and new potatoes at my mums. She loves sitting at the table when everyone is around it eating

OH is obsessed with spicy food (Even tuna pasta bake has to burn the roof of your mouth!) so I will def have to take Evie's food out before I put any of OH's chillis in!

I thought it was salt, sugar, runny eggs and honey that they couldn't have

Oxo probably has too much salt, and I think it has MSG in it too, so best to avoid.
You can buy baby stock cubes - I've bought some from Boots, it's their own Baby Organic range, comes in chicken, beef and veg, 6 for £1.49 and suitable from 4 months.
And yep, no honey until 1 yrs old.
