Hi

I'm new to all this and finding out I was pregnant was a big shock. I've booked a doctors appointment for next Thursday but I don't know what will happen. Will I need a sample? Do I have to choose what hospital? Should I take my partner?

When do you get to see a midwife and is that at the hospital where you will have baby?

Is there anyway of checking what hospitals are available in my area (mid Bedfordshire)?

Sorry for so many questions I just have no-one esle to ask!

Claire

Thank you Midna!

I never knew they came to your home. Thank god that yesterday I had a mega cleaning session!!! Did the kitchen inside out etc LOL

So will the midwife be attached to the local doctors surgery? Its quite a big practice.

firstly congrats on your pregnancy..

i've never heard of a booking appointment being done at home though

welcome to the forum!

 congrats on your PG. I saw my GP at 4+4 weeks and she basically just said congrats and make an appointment with the midwife at reception. I had my booking in appointment at my GP surgery, but I think it just depends on where you live and what the midwife procedure is.

Do I need to see the doc then? I hate feeling like I'm wasting peoples time. Should I just go staright to booking a midwife appointment?

Thanks everybody for the congrats. Midna how many weeks is the scan pic?

Also what does 4+4 weeks mean? Is that not just 8 weeks?

Congrats on your pregnancy

When I was pg with James I moved around a bit so was under the care of 3 different midwives (2 in Cambridge and 1 in Plymouth).
The first midwife I saw used to do home visits so I had my booking in appointment at home. With the other 2 I had to go to the surgery, apart from just before and after the birth.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and I'm really excited even though I know he'll do nothing exept ask when my last period was and maybe tell me what foods to avoid.
I won't be taking OH with me as we both felt it wasn't worth him taking time off work for what will probably be a 5 minute appointment. In fact, he may only come to the scans with me as in his job it can be hard getting time off at short notice.

ooh! and 4+4 is 4 weeks and 4 days. I'm 5+1, 5 weeks and 1 day.

I'd phone your surgery and ask cos with some you have to see the doctor first who will refer you to the midwife. Others will let you book with the midwife straight away

Thanks - I will give them a call tomorrow and ask which they would prefer me to do.

I have tried to put a ticker thing in my sig - if it doesn't work please don't laugh at me

My 1st docs appointment was a bit of a let down really - I had the locum doc who didn't know where anything was! Had to make an appointment with the midwife when I came out. All she did was feel my tum to make sure that I was 6 weeks pregnant rather than 6 months (as can apparently be the case!!). She was supposed to send away my scan stuff I think too.

Oh by the way Beds people...I've just moved back down to Devon after living in Leighton Buzzard for 7 yrs....

My second docs appointment went better then i expected, he basically spoke with me and we spoke about which hospital I wanted to be reffered to...

You will get a midwifes appointment in a few weeks time.

Have a look at what hospitals you think you want to have bub in.

Your partner doesnt have to be there its just general stuff...

xx

Good luck and congrats!

x
