Apologies if this isn't the correct place to ask this but, what does it mean when people say they're 10+5 weeks pregnant, or 4+2 weeks, for example?

Being naive and only just starting to try and conceive, I'd always just assumed you're pregnant from the date of conception but now I understand it's actually calculated from 1st day of last period.

So, is that where the 4+2 comes in...does it mean 4 weeks from conception + 2 weeks to count from last period??

And, if that's the case if you're 3 weeks since conception but 5 weeks since last period then are you classed as 3 weeks or 5 weeks pregnant?

I'm soooo confused.

Is a 12 week scan in theory done at 10 weeks since conception??

Boggled my brain!

Thanks

xx

10 (weeks) + 5 (days)

Weeks and days are counted from the 1st day of your last period but a dating scan may push you back or forward

Hope this helps xx

Ahhh that makes sense.

So 10+4 would be 10 weeks and 4 days. :-)

So at the point most people start telling others, around 12 weeks, they're saying they're 12 weeks pregnant but probably only conceived 10 weeks prior??

That is correct, yes :)

They would have conceived 10 weeks ago but they would still count as 12 weeks pregnant.
