ok, i know this is really stoopid but i'm getting myself a bit worked up about this as i seem to have no clue when it comes to dressing my baby!
so far we've been putting her in a vest and sleepsuit and then if we go out i'll either put a cardigan or jacket on her with a blanket depending on weather.now its turning colder what do i do?!
my flat seems to be freezing too- its 16 at the moment but she seems ok. I've just bought a 2.5 tog grobag as i was worried she was getting cold at night- the temp is 18 but dropped to 15 this morning. so what shoudl she wear underneath the grobag?
I feel really stupid and embaressed by my ignorance but my family haven't been much help and i don't know who else to ask!

caitlyn always has a vest & sleepsuit plus numerous blankets

during the day latly in chilly weather thomas wears a vest (short sleeve) t-shirt and a pair of joggers with socks,
if we go out i will swap joggers for jeans and put a light jacket on him (cardi) or a hoddie,
at night i dont use sleeping bags so i might not be much help but thomas wears a vestie and sleepsuit with feet he has a meduim thickness blanket over him and seems to stay a good temp, we dont have double glazing though so we loose alot of heat at night
hope that helps a little
xx

In bed at night Calleigh wears a vest and sleepsuit and sleeps in a 2.5 tog bag as the temp in my flat dips right down in the night to about 17-18.

In the day she will wear a vest, a t-shirt (longsleeved) and a pair of trousers and socks. If we go out i will pop on a jumper/hoodie (isnt quite cold enough for a thick coat as yet plus she is a hot baby) and pop a blanket over her legs in the buggy if nessesary.

Do remember babies tend to have chilly hands and feet at times, i know Calleigh does especially at night. Last night i popped her on the bed for a feed and she decided to reach out and touch her daddy who got the shock of his life  Then of course she will warm them on me when she feeds :)

Did you get a temperature reader with your sleeping bag? They usually put some clothing directions/tips on the back of those.

My house is quite warm because our central heating is on one of those wireless things so we set it to the temp we want the house to be and if it drops below that then it kicks the boiler in. I normally have the temp at around 19.5 and Evie is comfortable in just a sleepsuit and a 1 tog sleeping bag.

It's really difficult isn't it

Our house is cold and we have no heating so Angel has a vest and sleepsuit for bed. Then i wrap her in a blanket and put another on top. If she's in a sleeping bag then just that or if it's a bit chilly a blanket on top.

To go out at the mo she will always wear a hat. It's freezing today so a nice coat with a hood. She always has a vest on now then trousers and a long sleeved top, socks and coz she kicks those off i stick slippers on too.

Whenever i bath her i put a thin hat on for a little while til she's properly dry.

A nice thumb rule with babies is, to make sure that they are wearing one more layer than you are. That is to say. If you are in the house with a tshirt on they should have a vest and a baby grow on. If you are going out and you have a tshirt, jumper and coat... then they need a vest, a baby grow, a jumper and a coat...

Always take a nice fluffy blanket with you out to keep there legs warm, unless you have one of those full body snow suits. And to check if they are warm, never touch the feet or hands, touch the skin on their backs or tummy. That will give you a better indication as to their core temperature. Babies generally have very poor circulation so hands and feed are always chilly.

And don't worry... none of this is taught but learnt

When Emms was 1 month, I mainly put her in sleepsuits in the house and took blankets out with me in her pram with a warm hat.

At the moment she sleeps in a sleepsuit and is in a 1.5 tog sleeping bag with a blanket over her and seems to be ok. The temperature in her room at night is from 18-21' normally.

When bab is so young I wouldnt worry about dressing her in proper clothes as they are so little and babygrows/ sleepsuits are fine and easy when you are having to change them so much!!

I have just started to dress Benjamin in other clothes than babygrows in the daytime, he wears a vest, long sleeved tshirt/jumper then i put him on a coat and hat if we are going out, followed by a blanket to pop over his legs.

But its getting chilly and im so paranoid over him being cold that i have just bought him a big warm snowsuit.

At night he wear a vest and a babygrow, but we have our heating on quite high so he only needs a blanket over him at night.

I'd be putting her in a vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag at night if its dropping to 15 in the wee hours and by morning. That's pretty chilly. Recommended room temp is around 18C. We try not to let the bedroom drop below 17C at night because of the medical advice etc. We were lucky as in summer it never went over 23C at night with window open. It gets colder in winter so we have a radiator on timer to come on and help keep the room near to 18C. We don't overheat the bedroom either, again because of medical advice. Our LO then wears a sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag.

Daytime if its chilly like now LO wears a shortsleeved bodysuit, long sleeved top and trousers. As it gets colder he may have a long sleeved bodysuit on under his tops.

When out he has a fleecy jacket with hood or a hat and if needed a blanket over his legs. We also use our rain cover as a wind cover also which helps lots.

We tend to have the house quite warm (around 21-23 degree's) and Ellie wears vest & sleepsuit at night, she wont have a blanket or growbag  she just kicks it off or wakes up crying til u take it off! :) During the day I tend to ensure she has one more layer than i'm wearing x

It's freezing in our house at night so going to start putting the small electric radiator in her room room tonight.

DH and I always argue about temp and what to dress her in as I'm always cold and wearing thick jumpers and shivering and DH is always hot and in a t-shirt :wall: .

Do you have a thermometer of some sort for in there? We got one of the GroBag eggs. Been great. I just open my eye see its the right colour and don't worry. So long as its not too cold or hot (around 18C is ideal) then she should be fine in sleepsuit and sleeping bag.

Thanks ladies and thank you for not pointing at me and laughing at my stupidity!
 i just looked on the gro bag packaging and saw that they have recommendations on what to wear!
got dh to sort out the heating too so it stays at a constant regular temp.
so much to learn and worry about!

No one will laugh at you. It's more a case of trial and error. I daren't ask so i'd dress her, a bit later check her temp and alter accordingly. It was hard when she was under the weather at 3 weeks.
You'll get there. It's just as big a learning curve as parenting itself.

You've had loads of great advice so I won't add any. I just wanted to let you know that taking DD for a walk yesterday I was a bit worried I might have gone OTT with the covers so I was staring in every pram and pushchair we passed to see what other mummies were doing :rotfl:

At night just a vest as his is swaddled, this house is also very warm, during the day he wears joggers/jeans, vest, long sleeved t-shirt and when out thick coat, hat and a blanket to cover him
