What day do you count from?

So a little confused but would be really helpful if someone could tell me.

I get pink /red blood spotting (I guess you would call it that) a day or so before I start my period and then I go full swing period for 3 days..then some spotting and stops.

Question is, do I count the first spotting day as my period if it is red blood?

I use to count from the day of full flow.

Yes me too, the spotting doesn't really count.x
