What can I wear to a christening on Sunday to hide the bloat?!

I've got a christening to go to this weekend, and another next Sunday. I brought a dress for another christening I went to over the summer, so was planning on wearing that. It turns out it isn't as good at hiding the bloat as I thought :-/

I've ordered some bits from Next to be delivered tomorrow so hoping there might be at least one thing suitable!

Any ideas where I can find something suitable for a small family christening by Sunday? Something flattering, and fairly cheap if possible? I don't mind online or in store, so long as I find something for Sunday!!

I'm not even 8 weeks yet so can't be turning up with a bloat like this, everyone will be asking questions!!!

(Excuse the mess, in desperate need of a tidy and sort!!)

I don't have any specific examples, but I wore a maxi dress to a wedding at 20 weeks and people didn't notice my bump. So that's what I'd go for if I were you (no idea what's about at the moment as I stopped buying clothes a few months ago!) xx

Thank you. I have no idea where to even start. I hadn't considered a maxi dress, I was leaning towards sticking with smart jeans and a nice top (if I can find any that fit haha!!) I think I'll just have to hit the shops today and pray I find something that disguises it a little. Xx

I'd try styles that gather under your boobs and hang loose over your belly - just try anything you can find in that style and see how you get on. In my experience those skater style dresses seem like they will hang but in actual fact make you look like a total heff... although that could of course just be my personal experience xx

Can you try and hide it with control pants? Maybe not firm support but enough to suck it in abit? xXx

Definitely maxi dress, they're great for hiding unwanted attention to 'problem' areas. I'm not sure where you live but there's a great ship called yours that specifically deals with clothes for 'larger' ladies (14+) I shop there as I bloat really bad(when I had periods) and im not the skinniest of people xx

That's a lovely dress :-) where on earth would I find a maxi dress this time of year?! I have a decent shopping centre 5 mins away and am quite close to merry hill (or hell!) so can get to most shops quite easily.
I'm a 12-14 (although much nearer 14 lately!) but quite small up top, so most dresses that flatter the stomach and hips, usually come up far too big around my boobs :-( I hate finding clothes!! Xx

I considered control pants, but I can't deal with anything tight at the best of times, especially now with the nausea.
I think I should just go in my pjs haha. Xx

You might find that some places have their party season stuff in? I have no idea really as like I said its been a while since I shopped for clothes, but you might find something long and floaty in the party season stuff - or a bargain in the last few bits of summer stuff? Could you ask any friends if they have something suitable? I have done that in moments of desperation and they never fail me (and free coz you give the clothes back!) xx

I bought a lindy bop dress and petty coat for a wedding at the end of the month - it covers perfectly. So maybe look for that style of dress? Unfortunately I don't think you'll get one delivered by Sunday :-( xx

I was going to suggest something similar to tigger87. I wore a 50s shape dress with quite a stiff underskirt to a christening at about the same point...hid my tiny bump well...no one noticed anyway! Xx

Thanks for the suggestions :-) I've got my flu jab at 11.30 then plan to hit the shops, I'm not coming home until I find something! I'm not usually a dressy person and tend to stick to the same plain-ish styles so find it difficult to look outside the box and try something new. I'll try anything and everything today though!! Xx

I'd go with something that's double layered, bottom layer will cling then top layer will flatter x

Good idea :-)
I tried the dress on again last night with a tight-ish vest top underneath, it seemed to help a little and smoothed out some lumps and bumps! Sort of like control pants but more comfortable! Still not confident it hides enough tho so still on the hunt this afternoon. And the bloat seems even worse this morning and I haven't even eaten yet :-/ xx

I think I'm sorted :-)
We went to visit my SIL and her new baby yesterday (I'd be so broody if I wasn't already pregnant!). She's lent me a maxi dress which seems to hide most of the bloat :-) we're staying at a friends house looking after their cat this weekend, so need to pop home to pick up my sandals and cardi to go with it.
Thanks for all your help ladies!! Xx

That's lovely and you definitely can't see any bloat! And bonus points for borrowing so you didn't have to fork out for a new outfit! xx

Thank you :-)
It's not something I'd usually go for but it feels much better than some of the stuff I tried on.
I didn't expect her to have anything, she's just 5ft and I'm 5ft9 so in to totally different stuff normally!
Xx
