Kai sort of dropped the dummy himself at 18 months, we couldn't find any one night and put him to bed without one and he was fine and we never looked back. I think we got really lucky.
I'm sorry but I hate seeing kids walking around with them, we were in New York 2 years ago and there was a girl with one who was about 6!
In an ideal world I would let them have the dummy until around 1 as it is for comfort and then try to get them off it, they are still babies after all.
