This morning i was on the phone with my mum ( she is in malta )and ive mentioned that im getting a wet panty every now and again. This evening she called again to tell me that she has been to our family GP ( HE IS ABOUT 70) and asked him about my wet knickers. well to cut the story short he told her that i should go to the hospital immediately cos if its my amniotic fluid 1) im going to dry up 2) if water break all of a sudden in a big gush then the baby might die. Now i have a very worried mother miles away from my house AND me thinking wether ishoul call the midwife and ask her this silly question. ive put a pad on and its not wet so i d rather think thats its just wee or discharge. ive been having wet panties since xmas day! what do you think girls?by the way baby is moving frantically and she is very low down.

Theres been a few posts recently about this.. have been the same since around 36 weeks but it got worse last tuesday, was out shopping and had to change knickers when I came home
Mentioned it to midwife, and she sent me straight to hozzie, they monitored me and did an exmination, said it wasnt fluid....
If pad is dry after a couple of hours, its unlikely to be your waters but I would defo say to ring midwife if you are concerned, better to spend an hour or two at hozzie to be on safe side chicky

Use a maternity pad tho, not a panty liner (MV said pant liners are no good)

Hi

Ide phone to make sure even if its just for your moms sake, dont want her to worry then you can both relax

Sorry but baby will not die if your waters gush :rotfl:

They make the bed a bit wet though :rotfl:

If you are or think you are 'leaking' then yes contact mid-wife or if your waters gush contact your midwife, but i wouldn't worry

I meant to add my sisters waters went at 32 weeks (gushed down her legs in Asda  ), and she had baby @ 34 weeks when she went into labour, baby had no waters for 2 weeks and was perfect...sis was on antibiotics to stop any infection as baby could get one if waters do go xx

When my waters went I only knew I wasnt wetting myself because I couldnt stop it mid flow like you can with a wee

They think my waters went on the Saturday and I was induced on a Tuesday.... I too was very wet and it turned out that I was leaking the hind waters and my main waters had to be ruptured artificially...
Take yourself to the hospital and they will examine you to make sure the fluid isn't coming from your cervix...

Your baby won't die if the waters break as you continually replace the amniotic fluid hourly... but you may be a bit wet! My hospital doesn't like to let you go more than 72 hours if you are leaking as the risk of infection is high after that - So it is better to get checked out.

thanks girls..well, ive put a pad on about two hours ago and its been dry ever since...so i really do not think that my waters broke

Good luck! Sounds like it might not be your waters, but I know nothing about that, sorry. Hope it goes well for you though

I don't know where some GPs get off scaremongering like that.

I remember early on in last pregnancy I had strange pains in my lower belly, so I went to see my (also elderly) doc and she said it was in the area of my appendix which would be unfortunate as having an appendectomy would almost certainly terminate the pregnancy. She said that if it was appendicitis then it would present itself in the next 48 hours - nothing I could do but wait and see. I was worried sick as you can imagine - turned out to be my bowels cramping  But I was really pee'd off with her I can tell you.

Anyway, on the subject of waters gushing, loads of people gush - it does not mean baby will die. The only thing you need to be aware of is that waters breaking in a sudden gush can result in a prolapsed cord (which is when part of the the cord comes out as well) - the baby's head can then compress the cord which would cut off oxygen - if you feel the cord then from memory I think you're supposed to lay down with your legs elevated and wait until the ambulance arrives (someone correct me if this is wrong). This is exceptionally rare so not something you should be worrying about, just something to be aware of.

Anyway, sounds like it may not be your waters after all, but when they DO go, don't be worrying about baby drying out or dying!

I was like that too at your stage.. constantly having to wear a pad. At 32w I mentioned it to my mw and they sent me in to hospital to check for waters breaking etc.. i was also having strong BH which didnt help, coz they put me on the monitors and the BH were strong like early labour lol! So i had fake water breaks and BH lol, they sent me home anyway and said if BH gets worse then go back but they didnt and i had her at 39+2.
They do a home test for amniotic fluid, its a panty liner you wear for an hour or so and it tells you if its amnio or not! Clever! Not sure if its 100% reliable but it saves the trip to the hospital for nothing! May be 99.99999999% accurate lol
