I am rather confused - is it ok if water gets into my babies ears while I bath him? Info from the Internet seems contradicting... I wonder what the NHS recommendations are?

I think a little bit of waters fine as long as its not loads. You can't really help it when washing their hair x x

A little water in their ear is fine just make sure you rinse the outside of the ear when your done so theres no shampoo left in

thanks girls... I don't use any shampoo yet - I think my boy is too young for that, plus he doesn't have much hair anyway :)

I was wondering if it would be ok to submerge his head in water (leaving the face above the surface of course) while I'm bathing him - first, it would be warmer for him, and probably more fun, and second, I heard that if they get used to water in their ears while they are little, then there is less chance they would get infections because of it later. Dunno... I guess I won't do that after all - sounds too scary!

How olds you Lo

Since d was about 5 month we layed him on the bottom of the bath and put the water about half way up his ears.he loved it and splashed with his feet n hands.

I'm guessing its no different to swimming as they advise you to dunk em in it x

thanks for your reply - he is 1 month and 1 day today :)

Kynons ears are under water most of time, he likes it. You can go to swimming classes here from birth in a hydro pool that actively encourage newborns to go under water. We're on the waiting list, can't wait, they even take photos of your baby swimming under water if you want!

There are swimming lessons for babies that are new born (waterbabies), so it can't be that bad can it..?!

its not water thats the problem, its shampoo, bubble bath, chlorine, soaps etc. even adults can get ear infections at the swimmin pool!

right... but I dont use any of these in my babies bath...

I lay Matthew down in the bath from a couple of weeks old, with using j&j bubble bath! He has no problems with his ears! Tbh I was never told not to!

One of those chemicals, formaldehyde, is used to preserve dead bodys!

If it wasnt safe then they wouldn't b able to sell it.

Johnsons baby wipes have a chemical that's also used in bleach n if dripped on a raw chicken will burn right through, however only small amounts of these chemicals are used hence no bad effects on the children.

Maybe not instant visible damage, But do you wanna take the risk? You babys skin absorbes that moister, and while it may be small amounts in the package, over the years of you using them, more andmore of it is absorbed into their system.

So you use just plain water to wipe bums? plain water to wash in?No washing powders? No sterilling products on toys?

They would not let you use tgese products if it harmed them in anyway! They test over loads and loads of years!

I know its an annoying saying but my parents used all these things on me and my toys etc when I was a baby and I'm fine! As Sedse said they have gone through so many tests and wouldn't be allowed to sell them if they were dangerous!
