With winter coming in and heating being on just wanted to remind everyone about radiators. I know you will all be on the ball a lot more then me but Seren burnt her hand today. She is ok, it is superficial and has blistered, and she is proudly showing off her little bandage now to everyone (she waved at the poeple in the hospital as we were going). I just didn't think to how hot they could get :(

Sorry to hear Seren hurt her hand poor little girly! Hadn't even thought about the radiators to be honest so glad you posted about this hun. Luckily we haven't had to use them so far. Poor Seren :(

Poor Seren, it's true I never gave it a thought either but Isaac should be mobile sometime over the winter. We'll be careful when he is moving around.

Oh no poor Seren I hope she's ok :( Thanks for posting that, it never even entered my head as the one in our lounge doesn't work and is behind the sofa, but I will need to be careful around the others. Sending Seren a big get well hug

Thanks guys. Seren seems to be fine, is acting as if nothing has happened and her abndaged hand hasn't caused her too much bother. She has been busy playing with her new puzzle which she got for being a brave soldier.

Thanks for the reminder!

On a much more superficial note, beware of leaving your packets of baby wipes on radiators too! In our nursery it's an easy place to store them whilst changing nappies and I dried out a whole packet the other day! :?

Glad you're ok Seren! :)

you must have gotten such a shock! Hope her little hand is ok x

Ahhhhh my sweetie!! How is she now Beanie? Hope she's ok. My mum only reminded me of the radiators yesterday.
Its so hard isnt it, i looked up the other day and Charlie was munching on a magazine
Big hugs to her xxx

she's doing much better today, doesn't seem to bother her. Hospital re-dressed it this morning, the blister is all across her palm. She was so brave holding out her wee hand to the nurse. It looks rather hip hop though, one hand bandaged wuth her fingers and thumb sticking out. She is loving all the attention. We have to go back Tues morning to the GP's to get it redressed (bandage is rather grotty at the mo as she like to feed herself hehe)

Bless her. Glad she's ok. Must have given you a right scare.
Can't say it had even entered my head but then we haven't put our heating on yet & Jamie isn't crawling. Will have to keep an eye on it when he is tho.

ahh poor little Seren! hope she is on the mend now :(

Can i just say that it is possible to change the temerature of the rads - there is something you can do on the boiler so the water temp isnt as high - this is not the same of turning your room thermostat down though. we have set ours so that you can hold your hand on it for and still know its hot but it wont burn. also the advice they give about putting lagging on the pipes that come up from the floor to the rad - the pipes are no hotter than the radiator so you still need to watch them around it or turn the temp of the water doen.

dh is a plumber so i can ask him how if anyone wants to know (in fact i might do a post later when i have spoken to him!)

Please. At the moment the heating is only on for 5 minsd til the chill has gone but I am so paranoid :(

That would be great if you could give some advice Em78. Thanks for the warning Beanie, poor little Seren :(. If you can't turn the temp down on the radiators what are people putting in front of them? I was thinking cardboard or how about wrapping a duvet round them? Or I might only have it on when he's not about....? Hmmm.

ok wil ask dh tonight - he may even make his first post! will do in a seperate post as some people might not look back in here if they have posted already.

here is Seren showing of her bandage (excuse the mankiness of it, she likes to rub her food in it and crawl everywhere hehe)

The exact same thing happened to kai beanie, blistered all along his little hand :( You wouldnt even know it happened now, everyone kept sayin oh it will scar an so on i felt so guilty, but there is no scar at all! The hospital even stripped him and checked him for bruses an broken bones on my 3rd visit to get it re-dressed, ive never felt so scared in my life, all was ok though!

So yes it can happen!

Oh so cute too.

awww bless her, not that its bothering her though

When we had a fire before Dior would always tr to touch it. so i took her hand up to it close so she could feel the heat. she never went near it again. its nasty but i was worried sick about her near it.
she is the same by the iron. she looks at it and says "noooo"

but the radiators i have not thought of??? most of them are covered though or behind the sofa

thanks sophie, that is really good to know, and helps me not feel like shit  I am kind of expecting to be quizzed to be honest. I know that a common place for physical abuse is the palm and burns so I understand them checking. Also wiith my PND I am aware that this is sometimes mentioned to social services, but I guess its better they do this then take chances and miss things.
