Probably sounds a bit thick, but if you use household antibacterial wipes (or spray I suppose), double check on the back that they are ok for 'food surfaces' before using them on highchairs. Whether or not the food touches the surface, your LO is still touching the high chair and then touching the food or their mouth.

Ryan's nappies had been bad for a few days and not saying this is the cause but it's something to bear in mind. I recently bought dettol wipes instead of flash wipes (assumed they were all the same) and dettol wipes are not suitable for food surfaces.

That's probably common sense, unless you're like me and just assume they're all the same..

thanks shell, ye i just assumed they were all the same

I never use them. I can't bear the guilty conscience  I wash my dishcloths.

If you can't use them on food surfaces I don't see they are much cop tbh. You may never know if they caused the nasty nappies. Hope Ryan's tummy is better soon.

 I don't use them but I'm glad you posted that cause my mum does. :?

Oooh I would nevr have thought of that, just presumed they were all safe.

I use Dettol anti Bacterial surface cleaner *runs off to check label* says do not use on cuttlery and drinking glasses so I presume this isnt safe either.

I have a small bottle of Cif Anti Bacterial that came in my bounty pack which says its suitable for food preparation areas so I will have to swap to Cif when we buy a high chair.

Thank for this :)

i use the white pack of dettol wipes and it says safe to use in food prep area, and it says this on website:

Dettol Anti-Bacterial Surface Wipes
Kills 99.9% of harmful bacteria such as E.coli, Salmonella, MRSA and the Flu virus (H1N1).
Contains no bleach and leaves no taint or odour.
Ideal for use where food is prepared, or around baby areas.
Usage areas: Kitchen worktops, fridge's, baby's highchair, telephones, door handles, bathrooms and microwaves.
Convenient and easy to use format for fast and hygienic cleaning.
Each packs contain 56 regular (28 large) wipes.

Maybe its the one with scent, as the white one is scent free?

thanks a bit daft! whats the point of haivng kitchen wipes if you cant use them on food preperation surfaces? lol..

i use sterilising tablets.. i put warm water in the bowl and leave the dish cloth in there for a bit while im pottering then clean the sides down with it.. it probably isnt as effective as bleach but i know its safer for teds :D

We use Milton wipes too for everything baby related. We sometimes use the liquid too (they use that in hospitals etc). I usually get them from Babies are Us.
