.. well i had the HV come and see me today (after i cried at the last visit for no real reason! lol) I explained that Ollie is still being sick after his feeds and had a couple of projectile vomits yesterday. She said it maybe an idea just to get him checked by the doc incase its reflux.

I always thought that reflux would mean he is screaming, hates to be lied flat and doesnt gain weight?? Apart from the usual crying he doesnt have any of the other problems. I'm going to monitor him over the next couple of days and write down how many times he is sick etc..I must sound like a right hypocondriact.. i just wish babies could tell you whats wrong!

It's definitely worth checking Claire. We had vomiting all the time from when she was tiny and were told it was normal. She was puking after every feed for hours right up until she was fed again. She was 4 months old before we were prescribed Gaviscon which worked wonders for her. She did have some discomfort but for us the constant sickness was the problem - they're all affected by reflux differently. She never lost any weight either but needed her clothes changed about 4 times a day.

I would get it checked out to. at least your mind would be put at ease
My first son had bad bowel problems but his projectile vomit went to illuminous yellow then green (it was a bowel malrotation)

Dont worry about sounding like a hypocondiac I have been horrendis with my new born am comparing every bowel movement and vomitting session to the way my son AJ was its driving DH mad hehe

Hope your little one settles soon
xx

It sounds like it's worth getting checked, but just some good news: Lucy used to do this a lot, we'd get one projectile vomit a day, sometimes more. I had to wind her very carefully and I made sure she was kept upright after a feed. I didn't change her nappy or anything afterwards. I'm so pleased it was just a phase, albeit a horrible one. I was really worried at the time (I was post-pregnant lady hormonal and would cry every time she did it) . It became less often, once a week instead, and then none!

I hope you're as lucky :)

It could be reflux.

I'd be inclined to take him to the doctors on Monday, ask for some Gaviscon for him and try it and see for a week. Gaviscon won't hurt him to take and if it works then :) In fact even if your GP is sceptical I'd push for it to at least try it and rule out that it doesn't help.

I'd also read up on reflux (or have a nose in the thread on it) and maybe see what other things you can be doing to see if it helps him.

Thanks ladies.. i'm starting a bit if a diary for the next few days to see if there is a pattern. He was sick a few times after his feed this morning (not massively) but it was when he was put down. After he was sick a few times he then brought up a burp. Maybe it was the wind pushing up the sick? I think maybe i should try and keep him upright after a feed for a bit? Im sure its all just normal and its me worrying for no reason.

On a positive note, ollie is asleep in his cot (i took the HV advice) I think ive been overstimulating him by jigging him up and down when hes been crying. All along he probably wanted me to bugger off and leave him to sleep! This is such a learning experience.. i so wish i'd looked after babies before to get an idea of what its all about! I always get a bit worried when he cries if im out and people are judging my parenting skills (or lack of).. ooops.. turning into a counselling session again! lol

I'm off to a postnatel group today to learn about different parenting things..

i posted this in another thread yesterday... not sure if it will be any help to you. but ive copied and pasted it for you just incase..

"My 22month old brother also had reflux however his was rather severe.. he wouldnt keep any bottles down what so ever and after a while started losing weight rapidly.. we too went to the docs and like beckyJ we had to suggest reflux.. he was referred to the hospital and was given gaviscon for his feeds and also 2 types of medicine to be taken 3 times a day.. ranitidine (sp?) and motillium domperidome (sp?) but as i say he was very severe.

we were given lots of tips to try and ease his discomfort (reflux is like adult heartburn in a child)...
* try tilting the moses basket sligtly and the top end so LO is not entirely flat (this stops so much reflux acid gettin near lungs)
*try changing bottles to dr browns...
* try keep LO as upright as possible as much as possible such as a bouncy chair ( the are a few that cater for newborn age)
*also.. there is a milk formula called cow and gate stay down this states that its made especially for babies that bring up feeds such as reflux babies.. however it can be used for just sicky babba's..

id go to your doctor hunni and see what he/she says.. if they dont pull a decent reason out of the bag, suggest reflux and see what they say...

our doc is poo so he only really started taking notice and taking us serious when he lost weight..... but your doc might be better.

hope this helps.. if not xxxxx"

we were also told to make a diary of how much milk intake, how much sick, and how forceful etc..... this helped when we pleaded our case to the docs xx

I hope its not reflux hun but even if its not reflux I would keep baby upright after a feed for at least 20 mins! All my babies brought back some milk if they were lay flat after a feed!
I also tilt their moses basket/crib/cot at the head end! (while in the moses basket/crib, I just roll up a towel and place it under the mattress)

My first 3 didnt have reflux but were quite sicky babies so learnt the things to help them! Lola so far is doing pretty well (apart from the occasionally projectile vomit lol due to needing a big burp)

Its just a case of trial and error hun! Dont beat youself up! Your doing nothing wrong! Babies cry, babies puke! Im sure your a fab mummy!!

just got back from docs.. they have given me gaviscon..anyone know if its ok with infacol? also.. how long does it take to work?

Ollie was suppose to have his jabs but he had a very slight temperature.. he did have his coat on and when the doc did it after he was fine. typical! :wall:

Yep it's fine with infacol. We saw results with the first bottle - it's not like infacol where the effect build up, it thickens each feed as it goes down. Fingers crossed Claire, let us know how you get on
