Had visit to the midwife today and discussed birth plans. She mentioned vitamin K for baby at birth, and that it can be an injection or oral medication.

What did you go for? X

I chose the injection. I'm sure my midwife said if taken orally it has to be repeated a few times over a couple of weeks?? I can't remember specifics but thought the injection would be quicker and easier! xx

Injection - not that I was told there was a choice. They do it literally after birth so I think the baby is so stunned by everything that's happened it barely notices x

I don't remember being given a choice but that was 3 years ago so maybe things have moved on.

Likewise they give you an injection to help with delivery of placenta ( plus reduce haemorrhage risk).
They just give it. I don't remember being asked if I wanted it.
I think you have to be fairly explicit if you don't want these sort of things.

Xx

On the birth plan I completed it's asks whether you want your baby to have the vitamin K and whether you want it given via injection or orally. x

The injection is done straight after birth and the baby needs one. If you go with oral they need 3 doses. I think I'll go with the injection as then it's over and done with.

They definitely asked about both mine and the baby's injection (2014 and 2016) and both were done straight after delivery. Your body has just gone through such a massive thing that you really don't notice a little injection! X

I was asked with both of mine too (2014 & 2015). I opted for the injection both times and will again, baby was too stunned to realise what was going on and when they did I just wapped them on me boob

I was never asked with my daughter (2015) until I had just delivered her. I consented to the injection. I haven't been asked yet this time around yet but of course will have it done.

I couldn't and still haven't taken me pre and post labour iron so I'd be shit at remembering oral vit k.

With both boys I opted for injection.

xxxx

We opted for injection. I hadn't had the midwife appointment where I signed the form as I had him before the appointment and so my husband signed the forms after birth.

I was also asked about the injection for the placenta during labour, I think you have to be given the choice. I was induced and so they recommend having it, so I did.

I've opted for the injection of vitamin k too, just cos it's over and done with then and I haven't got to worry about taking baby back for more doses x

I think I'll go for the injection too. Sounds less stressful for bubba.

Before Labour I decided in the injection but my little girl wasn't ever given it. It was mentioned when she was born but never haopened so she had the oral. A few days in I accidentally spilt half of it and when I contacted my midwife she said not to worry but I obviously did, then I forgot a dose, I just had too much going on. Next time I'd insisit on the injection
