Hi,
My Granny was admitted to hospital last night for either a severe chest infection or suspected pneumonia, she is getting more tests and an x ray today but will be in for a few days and is on oxygen.
I was considering going to visit her tomorrow or Saturday but DH said I shouldn't because of risk of infection? I am 12 weeks today.
What do you think/advise?

Ooo i would prob agree with your OH to be on the safe side. Youre not going to know what conditions other patients have on the ward. You could always check with midwife maybe if youre still wanting to go? Hope your gran gets better soon x

Well I work in a hospital on the wards, so am I not supposed to go to work my whole pregnancy for risk of infection? Amy patient who has anything infection will be isolated to avoid any cross infection so you'll be absolutely fine. My grampa was also in hospital for the first 3 months of my pregnancy and I visited him as much as I could! I wouldn't worry in the slightest about going xx

If you're super worried, could you call the ward she's currently on and ask them their advice on visiting while pregnant? I'm sure they'll be able to advise you on how contagious the ward is etc and what is best for baby!

Thanks, yes I was thinking there are always going to be pregnant doctors and nurses and NHS staff and surely they are ok to be in the hospital for work!
I think I will wait and see what exactly what it is that she has, if she is on a bay or room and maybe just get my sister to ask a member of staff on the ward. She will hopefully be home in a couple of days anyway. x

I would go, as MrsS says anyone with a seriously contagious infection would be in isolation and be barrier nursed. I've visited my friend a few times and have also been going for my own appointments as well as continuing to volunteer at the local nursing home. The only people who seem to be getting me unwell are my darling nieces and nephews hahaha! I do understand the worry but you should be absolutely fine x
