went to see my lovely lady doctor today who said some interesting things, althoug not sure i agree with her completely on all of them  ...

I told her that I was quite obsessively testing with opks  , and that I was unsure I was ovulating as I didn't really have the other signs. She said that fertility clinics now don't recommend you chart and use opks as there is no proof that this increases your chances of conceiving? (I don't get this really). She said the usual about bding every 2-3 days :bored: and that if I am having 28 day cycles then it's likely I am oving - but if this is right then I have been using those tests several times a day and they haven't picked it up.

She's given me a bloods appt for next month CD21 to check I am oving to put my mind at rest.

So, I'm not really any further along but at least I can be tested for oving. Going to try not to obsess as much but as we all know it's easier said than done.

Hope you've all had a good day, it's FREEZING here!!

That is intresting to read because when I went to see the fertility specialist and said that I was using OPKS and charting she said thats one of the best things to do to keep an eye on my cycles and see how things are going  very strange. I have read somewhere that you can have cycles and periods but not actually ovulate do you have the TTC bible? ( also known as 'Taking Charge Of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler ... :D ) It might say something in there  I will go check when I have a minute to see if I can find anything. I have to go back to the fertility specialist in Feb after having 2 lots of blood to make sure that I am ov even though I have periods (although my periods are not regular but getting better  )

Hope you get some answers soon

It's good that you have a sympathetic Dr & she's going to run some tests. It's a pain having to wait until your next cycle tho.
I went to see my GP a few weeks ago as we were having problems and she said charting was a good idea and something you can take to the fertility clinic that'll help them see what's going on with your cycles. I can't see how it wouldn't be of help? That's the only way I figured out what was going on with my body.

I hope all goes well hun

sounds positive hun... atleast she listened to you and are doing some tests! put your mind at ease at least.

hope it goes well! :D

its been fffffrezzing here too... although i cant complain, im going scotland for new year! now that will be cold!!

Man, that sounds like one crappy experience at the doc's - sorry to hear about that!

I don't know hon...I would find it hard to trust any doc who says that charting along with opk's is not recommended. Every doc I've spoken to has said it's the best thing I could do, not only to help me get pregnant but also to know what's going on with my body (I have PCOS). I'm glad you're getting bloods done, tho - that will definitely help.

Defo follow A&J's advice and read THE BOOK. :D There's some info in there about opk's - they are notoriously unreliable used by themselves b/c everyone's levels are different and because your body can have more than one surge before it finally ovulates. :wall:

Hope you get the outcome you want, hon!

I agree with you guys, can't see how charting and OPKs could not improve the situation but there you go. MAybe she meant that the stress that comes with all of it doesn;t help? I dunno, I just like to know what is going on with my body!

I do think I may need to invest in this book! Is it really good?

A&j Thats true my doctor said this to me that you can bleed and still not produce
a egg as you can grow follicels and thesa can be empty ...
I find checking your cm is reliable to know if your ovulating its thick when not then sticky when getting ready to then it goes wet when reaching fertile days then like raw egg white and will stretch with out
breaking from finger to finger when your most fertile ..
I did the cm charting a few times and gor bfps and i never used the opks

Yeah i agree, have also read that you can have periods and not be oving. The only thing about CM is that not everyone has it so again not a totally reliable method either :wall:

Will be checking out that book this weekend me thinks!!

Problem with me just checking cm is that because I have pcos I can be producing ewcm when I am not ovulating. I am using a clear blue fertility monitor and when it is on high I start using OPKS and also check cm. I do seem to notice more ewcm when the monitor is peaked but I get ewcm alot throughout my cycle.

I highly recommend the book aswell I have learnt ALOT and both me and DH call it the fertility bible :D
