Hello, since finding out im preggerz, tomorrow is my appointment, im jus over 6 weeks.
I was jus wndering if people had good suggestions to things i should ask, or information i could go in there with for them...

I am a single mum, first baby, feeling super nauseaus, really off eating, which is worrying, and cut down to just 3 cigs a day..... (please don't judge me for still smoking! i was on 20 a day!!!)

Anyway, any questions or suggestions?? Thankoooooo very big. x

Umm there's not a lot really... The Dr's app is usually just to confirm you're pg (Though a lot don't test you any more due to hpt's being either more or as sensitive as the ones they use) and to get you in touch with a midwife.. oh and a prescription for Folic Acid if you're not already taking it..

This was mine anyway, I was in and out in 5-10 minutes. It's the first midwife appt you want to keep your questions for :)

Nikkie - i was just gonna say pretty much the Danti - not really much at the docs to be honest, appart from getting the ball rolling.

Congrats with the smoking - dont let anyone make you feel guilty about 3cigs - thats a big improvement, and the fact that your trying is great.

Dont worry too much about being completely off eating I was exactly the same for a couple of weeks. Myy MW recommended i go for stodgy food - nothing with too much flavour (like spicy or garlic) - and nothing too fatty. I found having some microwave things in the house helped - like little pizzas and burgers/sandwiches helped - cos they only take a couple of mins with no prep - so if you do by some miracle feel the need to eat there is something quick and easy.

congrats on your pregnancy and good luck at the drs tomorrow

Hi Nikki
I've got my first drs appointment on thrusday, i'm due the same day as you, i know what you mean about being sick, i also smoke (used to be about 20 a day) but have cut down to about 5 a day which is good for me.

dont stress the smoking, any cut down is better than none at all and some ppl find it harder to quit than others. im right stubborn so i quit the day after i found out, cold turkey and havent had one since cos i know if i start i wont stop at 1. surely it takes more will power to cut down than stop lol, or at least it would for me.

congratulations... your starting the most amazing journey!

As mentioned above at my first midwives appointment they didnt do another test (I found this very strange as i was still in disbelief!)

They asked me about my general health... Eg diet, cig and alcohol intake. They generally just take details about you and the father of the baby if you are able to provide it.

Then i was given information about pregnancy and a pack which contained leaflets and some vouchers for baby things (Which came in handy!)

If you have any questions its a good idea to write them all down on a piece of paper before you go in. I always do this but find that sometimes i get sidetracked and am concentrating so much on what she is saying that i forget to ask half of the things i needed to!

Well done on cutting down... i was a smoker too at the beginning of my pregnancy and found that it was much easier not to smoke once i started to feel pregnant... As soon as my baby bump appeared and i had been for my first scan it all seemed real and i felt too guilty to smoke!

Good luck with your doctors appointment and the rest of your journey!

Hayley

Thanks for all the messages . . it went ok, my Dr was really helpful and polite about the situation.
Got my Folic Acid, and a general asking of diet, cigs, drink, and making sure i have lots of rest..
I asked her about how to get rid or at least lessen the nausea and sick feeling .. she said giner biscuits... and after munching on a few, it's the least sick i've felt all week!!... Miracle stuff!!!.. i didn't think i even liked ginger biscuits but they taste yummy now i know they work!! haha...
