Vesico-Ureteral Reflux - Calum *Updated with results*

Good luck  LO was going to have this done but fortunately at the last moment an ultrasound showed her kidneys had started reducing in size. I know how upset I was at the idea of having it done

Good luck with the results!!! I'd be really interested to know how you get on.

I have this. Unfortunately not as much was known 30-odd years ago and numerous UTI's as a child led to my kidneys being bad scarred and undersized. They keep me going just fine but it is more risky for me in pregnancy and I'm closely monitored.

Stanley had the test at a few weeks old and he came back clear.

Glad it went OK and Calum got over it relatively quickly!

Minxy, do you suffer with recurrent UTIs then? I kept getting them when I was 16/17/18 sort of age and I think they wanted to do this test on me *shudder*

Hope the results are okay, a horrible test for a 5 week old to go thorugh but at least its best to be certain, my lo had to have trimethoprin at 4months old due to a uti, but she had a scan on kidneys and eveything is fine so has stopped it now, takes horrible. let us know about results on your lo

I was on Trimethoprim daily from the age of 5-15, but infections got through. I had a run of infections at a similar age to you Debecca and again when I was early 20's. I then went on a daily antibiotic again but had to change every month to prevent developing resistance. It was a right pain and I've always felt 'wrong' (thrush, allergies etc) which I attribute to it. I came off them on my own accord a few years back and *touch wood* have been fine.

I'll go on a daily low dose again in third tri as I did last time, but ony cause UTI is so prevalent in late pregnancy. As medical conditions go it is managable, but I used to feel sorry for myself. Cystitis is grim but when it automatically turns into a kidney infection each time it really sucks. I missed quite a bit of school, and never even sat my GCSEs.

Still, I'm more grateful for my better health now. I have everything crossed for the little guy x

Oh no, I'm sorry I was really hoping he'd be clear :(

Is it rarer in boys?

I understand your concern with Lucy. As long as you're there to reassure her she'll be fine. I had a few of the catheter tests over the years and apart from one really horrible nurse when I was 5 who was so rough I developed a UTI (and a 'thing' about catheters :? ) all the staff who deal with children are generally lovely. They're trained to deal with nerves

Good luck at the next appointment. x
