Hi girls,

Just wondered if anyone has a similar experience or knows anything about this...
My son Vic is ten and he is VERY short for his age. Thing is, he had his yearly check up in March and the doc said: "hmm, rather short" to which i replied cheerfully, "yup we are all short in my family!" to which she replied..."no, I mean REALLY short, havent you noticed?" I hadnt  (May sound like she was nasty, she wasnt, very sympathetic in actual fact) She ordered xrays and they show that Victor's bone structure matches that of a six year old. She suggested that we have another appt in September to track his growth. That was yesterday. He has grown the absolute minimum for his age (2 cms) and is now at 128 cms, which is, I think in the second centile? Not sure...Doc has said another appt in Jan to continue mapping his growth and contemplate sending him to a specialist to see if their is a reason for stunted growth. :(
In the meantime I have been observing him with his mates and he is reeeeeally short in comparison of the eight year olds! and he is ten!!! :? I feel so worried about him and just wanted to know if anyone has any ideas. He is, on the other hand, perfectly proportioned, so maybe he is just a gorgeous short guy!

Thanks in advance for reading!

awww hun i really wouldnt worry to much about it maybe its a very late grower and he will wake up one morning and be 5ft 10!!!!
on the other hand him being short wont make any difference in his life really i come from a very short family as does hubby and so thomas is still tiny in lenth for his age (59cms)

My OH was a lot shorter than all his friends growing up! Hes now 5ft 9 which isnt massive but a decent height and its never stopped him making the most of his life! As you have said hun, I bet he is just a gorgeous short guy!!

First  its awful when you have worries like this.

My son was "small" up until he was 17 - we were back and forwards to the doctors every 6 months to check his growth - he played football and was a good head and shoulders smaller than most of the lads in his team - then over night he just grew :D He's about 5" 8 now which is an inch taller than my brothers and about 2 inches taller than my dad. He's nearly 19 and is still growing a bit.

We were told a son will always be taller than his mum but a daughter will never be taller than her dad - but this was little concilation for him as I am only 5"!!!!

I am sure he will shoot up soon - try not to let them panic you - just monitor his growth over a couple of years

i wouldn't worry either hon

my OH was quite small for his age til he hit 16, then he shot up to 6'1" in just a few months!

Hi. I was just being nosey in this forum  lol  but I wanted to say that being short isn't a particularly bad thing :D

My brother has always been small for his age. When he was 5yrs old people thought he was 3yrs old etc. Now at the grand age of 18yrs old he's still about an intch or so shorter than me....so approx 5ft 4".

It does get to him sometimes but only if it's shoved in his face - like when he turned 15 and needed to get an ID card to get into the cinema and non of his friends did. I think it was particularly hard on him during his primary school years - although everyone actually thought he was really cute - and if they didn't know his age very grown up lol. Infant school he was non the wiser and at high school there were other short kids and it was his personaility that people saw more than his size :)
Now he compensates at college by having a beard :rotfl:

These days I think it's more when my mum makes a fuss about it
Like when I visited a few months ago and called him "small stuff" or "short arse" (one of the two! :rotfl: ) which is something I've ALWAYS done, being the older sister by 4.5years....and my mum just glared and me and told me off right in front of him going on about "he's sensetive about his height"....and it just killed the playful sibling atmosphere and then as you can imagine the rest of the visit was awkward and I was deliberately trying to slouch :rotfl:

He apparently saw the doctor about hormone tablets last year to try and encourage some more growth but there's no guaruntee they'll do anything so he turned them down. I told him I thought that was sensible :D Was very supportive to him when I found out. I think again it was a case of mum marching him to the doctors because SHE was worried more than he was.

Again though - his parents are small. His mum's 5ft 2" and his dad's 5ft 4".
I'm the tallest out of the lot of us at 5ft 5"! lol :rotfl: (I do have a different biological dad though who was about 5ft 7" or so  )

Aww Ladies, thank you all so much for your answers, and particularly thanks Noor~ul~Usman for the "didnt shoot up" version, at least that way I know how things could go. It is true that Victor gets by on cute a lot of the time, never really thought about it before! On the other hand, he has been kept back this yr at school for acaedemic reasons and this has also helped him in this department, coz although he is still among the shortest in his year, he doesnt look sooooooo out of place.
