Hi,

I wanted to make a vegetable broth for my LO and wondered if its safe to use Vegetable stock cubes? I will of course be siving it all so there are no big bits and I wont be using salt. But before I went ahead with this I wanted to check that im not adding any ingrediants that I shouldnt be!

Do you have any ideas of other warm meals I could make and what kind of meats can I use & from what age?

Thanks

Watch the stock cubes hon, they can be very salty. I think you can get special baby stock though

Mash potato is a good base for warm dishes, like fish or cottage pie.

Is your baby weaned already? Once it's all established, meat is fine, although I found Stanley wasn't that impressed really. He never liked the texture, but would eat mince from quite early.

Hi Minxy,

I started to wean Antonio about 4 weeks ago now, so far hes had, creamy porridge, sweet potato, carrot, brocolli, avacado, rusk, pear, apple & banana. I diddnt want to use jars from the shops if I can help it so wanted to try and make food at home for him but im so unsure about things he can and cant eat without giving him the same kind of food everyday.

I dont suppose you know where I can get these baby stock cubes that you mentioned from??

Boots is a good place to try, I know they do a baby gravy stock. :)

Pop to the library for an Annabel Karmel book. Her info is really comprehensive and there 100's of recipes all given by weaning stage :D

you can get heinz, vegetable and chicken baby stock from most large supermarkets. It's in the baby section near the jars and formula.

Don't think you're supposed to use normal stock cubesas they are too salty.

if you're making broth I wouldn't use a stock cube. Boiling the veggies and meat should provide enough flavour in the water without using stock cubes.
