Hi

Well i finally say my delivery doc today the one that i had for Kiara.
Heres the story with Kiara I was due Jan 14th waters broke 230am on the 15th and was induced in the morning of the 16th by 1100pm was 9 and a half cm for 4 hours and couldnt dialate the last half and Kiara was stuck , so i had to go for an emergency section .

We discussed my options today and she said i could try for a natural birth but could very well turn out the same way if i have another big baby (which so far looks like i am ) or i could have a planned section at about 38 weeks.
I am really stuck i dont know what i would like to do

C-section
good things

-know when babies coming
- can have tubes tied at the same time
- dont have to go through labour just to have one anyways
bad
- recovery is aweful i hated it and have Kiara to look after now
- another scar
- epidural :?
- longer hospital stay
- wont get to experience a natural birth

VBAC
good
- can hopefully delivery natural!
- can hold LO right away
- less healing time
- baby can come when he is ready to come

bad
- have to be closly monitered
- have risks of ruptuure since i didnt wait long to get pregnant again
- worried about beign dissapointed if i dont make it the whole way ..again

for those of you that had to make this kind of decision how did you decide in the end? im really going both ways with this , but i have a good 3 weeks to change my mind .

Sorry this is so long just stressing over it :|

Any advice appreciated thanx

thats a tough one hun.

id be inclined to say, that if you are going to have your tubes tied anyway, opt for the c-section. it gets it out the way then.

but i can see that having a VBAC would be nice.

eek not a helpful response

Hi

thanks for replying hun .
I think that too and then change my mind and want to try .
Ive just read on the net that when you have a VBAC there are aloot of risks too:?

I'm only 14 weeks, but I've already decided on a planned section instead of vbac. My decision is based on many things:

  • My scar is high on my uterus and stands more chance of rupturing.
My family is far away and I'll know when they need to be here.
I had a great recovery last time, and I'll know what to expect.
Less chance of the baby being distressed/lacking oxygen.
Less mess - I only bled for three days.
Labour could be long and difficult as I've never tried it before.
I'd rather have a calm, planned section, than a panicky emergency one.
I won't have a nasty tear like the one that crippled my mum for a month.

This is just some of my list. There are also negatives to having another section - higher chance of hysterectomies, problems with future pregnancies, etc. As I don't plan on having more children, I decided these don't apply to me. The only thing that made me think was that there is a slightly higher risk of respiratory problems with caesarean babies (although less than there is chance of a distressed baby in labour inhaling meconium, causing the same problem).

As my baby is likely to be early anyway, I only see one negative for me, the rest is positive. This is based on me, and I wouldn't think this would be the same for everyone. A lot has to do with the recovery from my section last time, and I read all the reports and statistics on the RCOG site.

Hi

Thanks for that hun.
I think i did too much my last sectiona s my scar opened 3 times not but but enough that i had to take it easy and Kiara was only a baby then im scared i will open up from chasing her around ect.

I do not plan on having anymore children either so am not worried about future pregnancies.
Ive had both sides to this had family and loads of friends say im crazy to even think of trying natural as it will most likely turn out like the last time around. Ands others tahts ay i should give it a go

Thank you for sharing your story with me
Katrina

I opted for vbac this time as I had a bad experience ith my first planned section.

Unfortunately though I ended up having to ave a section again this time hich was a lot more positive although I am dissapointed at not being able to try to deliver naturally due to recovery being a lot quicker and my scar is taking a lot longer to heal due to my previous one.

It's a tough decision and only you know what is best for you, good luck!

Hi

thanks hun it is a hard desicion.
Sorry yours isnt healing as nice this time im worried ifi have another one it will open up from running after Kiara :?
Ill think alittle more and let you all know what i come up with

im hoping to have another section this time.. just because i want my tubes tied at the same time.. i go to consultants on wednesday to see if this is an option, what i dont want is to go for a natrul birth, then have to have an emergency section in the end, then a few month later have to go back to have tubes tied.. rather get it all done together.. sorry if this doesnt make sense!

Hi

It makes perfect sense to me hun.
I agree i think if i try labour and have to have a sectiona nywaysill be disappointed and i am also getting my tubes tied so my doctor said she will do it if i have one done .
Good luck at the consultants
