I have been discussing with Midwife about having a VBAC she says I really need to consultant at 20 week scan but because there will only be 17 months between this baby and Alex I wont be allowed an epidural incase the internal scaring bursts and I cant feel it. I am obviously hoping to do it without an epidural but last time I really wanted one.

Has anyone had similar experiances with a VBAC and been allowed an epidural? xx

Personally I don't see why you should have one (ever) except for a c-section delivery (obviously they cannot cut someone open without any medication). The risks of an epidural and they side effects are very big so I wouldn't opt for that in any reason.

Perhaps focus on other pain relief ways such as hypnosis or massage or something like that

Good luck :)

There are lots of outward signs of a possible uterine tear even before the woman feels pain, any mw worth their salt will see this.
That sounds like a load of rubbish to me tbh xx

I am not saying this is the only sign, but when you go to the hospital in labour and tremendous amount of pain mot being able to stand they will check for tearing of the scar right away (at least where I live).

They didn't check my scar once during my vbac!
They monitor your pulse and bp (this would rise if signs of rupture).
They monitor your temp (as above) and monitor baby for signs of distress.
This is exactly because you are in lots of pain so pain isn't the best indicator. However, if you do have scar based pain that persists between contractions then that is something to raise with mw xx

All of the above can be monitored safely with an epi in place so please don't be put off if that's what you'd like x

Thanks cos I don't want an epi but I wanted one last time. Fingers crossed I don't want one this time xx

Go with the flow hun, if you do feel that you need one don't be worried to ask xx
