urine infections during first tri...

Just a query really...

Have any of you suffered from a urine infection during pg?

When I went for my confimation appt with doc 4 weeks ago, he asked me to send a sample... came back as an infection.

Doc first said to ignore it as to avoid anibiotics as much as poss during pg, then called me on Fri to ay change of plan, I needed them even though I have no symptoms of an infection!

Started them now as dircted by doc...(guess what side efect is nausea..adding to my hell! )!

Apparently urine infections left untreated during the first tri can cause problems later on.

Has anyonelse hard of this or been tested?

Apparently it's a new thing according to the gynaecologist in the doc's practice.

I thought that urine infections needed to be treated ASAP at any stage of pregnancy due to the risk of kidney infections and early delivery?

That's what I was told when I was pg with Ella and had a couple of them.

how would u know if u had a unrine infection? may sound silly but i dont know what the systoms are.

I didn't have any symptoms and still don't... doc at the practice just asked me to do a urine sample for testing when i told him I was pg as a precautionary measure...

hiya

Last week i begged to see a midwife for various reasons, anyway she told me to go pee on a stick!! i did so and she said oh looks like you may have a urine infection ...take a proper uring sample to the doctors.

Anyway i went the next day and the moody receptionist said well you will have to wait a week before you get any results...so little old me just stood there about to burst into tears, when suddenly my doctor appeared said whats wrong....I explained and he gave me some antibiotics there and then...all good i thought but boy did i feel ill !!!! if i wasnt sleepy then i had nausea if not that them my head killed if not that then i needed to eat which then brought the nausea back on.

Well i called the surgery yesterday and guess what the sample came back as normal...so who knows what i had so i stopped the anitbiotics and i feel fine now...back to normal !!!!!!

I am seeing the midwife today and gonna check on the urine infection thing again but god only knows what happened !!

so i know how you feel !!

Ex hubby had a severely disabled child and they reckoned it was down to a kidney infection she got at some stage during the pregnancy (later on i think) Whether that was the cause or not they'll never know for sure so yes I've heard of infections causing problems.

i had a urine infection at 24 weeks, it feels like really bad period pains, i thought i was in labour, they sent me to the hospital and gave me sum antibiotics and it all got better in 5 days

When I saw the midwife yesterday she tested my sample and said I had traces of nitrates in my urine which could mean the start of an infection, so she sent the sample to the lab but I don't know whether I'm supposed to phone for results?

Would they tell me if there's something wrong? I've not noticed any symptoms of infection.

i wud keep phoning them to make sure coz you dont want that kind of pain, it i hard enough being pg without the extra stress

Well I got home from work at 6:15 last night, phone was ringing as I walked into the door - doctor! Can I get down the pharmacy by 6:30 I had an infection and need to start on the antibiotics ASAP!

I've had no symptoms at all but she scared the cr@p out of me! So now I have some gorgeous orange & blue tablets to take 4 times a day.

Ah, pregnancy's great!
