I know I'm going to sound like such an ungrateful wretch now but...

how do you deal with unwanted gifts; in particular clothes for your bub? I've been given so many clothes that I haven't put James in ever; mainly t-shirts with slogans on which aren't really suitable cos it's flipping freezing but also cos he's got so many other 'cute' tops.

So that's not so bad but what about when something is just plain horrid and there is no good reason for little one not to wear other than the fact you can't stand it?! Do you drag said item out for the buyer to see or stuff it in the back of the wardrobe and tell porkies along the lines of 'he had it on yesterday'????

Also we've ended up with four money boxes! At the moment we have two in his bedroom and two in the living room but we live in a small house and at some point I have to face the fact I don't have room for four of the flipping things!

I am thinking the same thing atm. We've just come back from the in laws with yet another teddy! Mollys cot is already full of them, when she has to move into her cot there will be no room.

As for clothes, I've got some horrid stuff (again from MIL)which has gone straight into the charity shop pile with the tags on. I know it's awful but she buys stuff that she wants to see hr in rather than stuff that she thinks we'll like (I'm not a denim raa raa skirt type!) Molly is only small so I just say 'It's too big for her' although I can't keep that going forever!

I've had this happen a few times and I usually end up taking them back to the shop and swapping for something else. If the person who bought it asks about it I tell them the size wasnt right & when i tried to change it the shop didnt have the right size so I swapped it for something else instead ;) lol

As for moneyboxes, can u not put them away somewhere? Keep them for him when he's older maybe? xx

I really wish that I had taken back the clothes that I didn't like when Ella was younger, instead I gave them to Refuge (see Urchin's link at the top of each page). Now, I take them back and say the same as HC, although that gets a bit awkward when it is the same people!

You could always use the buy/sell section of the forum, what's not for you may be for someone else :)

Or yeah, eBay is always an option :)

Ebay or exchange, just say it didnt fit or something.

The inlaws gave me this horrid football team snow suit. No Chance ill ever put it on her so it will just languish at the back of her cupboard till i chuck it.

Think id struggle to get rid on ebay as its got a Scottish football team emblazened on it

Im really straight up, I tell folk i dont like it (usually something like im sorry thts not my taste) and ask them to either take it back or if its something she has hundreds of ask them not to buy any more but get x instead, I do say it nicely and get away with it because im always like that. Luckily we have set pressies for people to buy, Books and sylvanian families (for when she is older) which give people plenty of options :D .

I have no shame in taking things back to shops! They usually will give you an exchange for something more suitable with no probs, and I dont worry about the giver seeing their presents on her, I wouldnt expect to see my friends kids parading things i have got them in the past and wouldnt feel upset if they had exchanged things for something they will wear either.
The only things I wouldnt change are from the grandparents.....my only exceptions! :D

I have took things back after Xmas. Got £36 back which buys a lot of vests and sleepsuits which is what she needs rather than one dress she will hardly wear.

Take things back to the shop if they have a tag so you know where they came from. We ended up with £150 mothercare vouchers, £100 Next vouchers, £30 Sainsbury's vouchers and £50 M and S vouchers. What a waste of money that would have been!!!!

We also got a romper suit that was pink leopard skin with a gold guitar over the front and said Rock Chick or something similar. We took it back to Harvey Nicks and it turned out to have cost £32! We didn't even really know the person we got it from so that was very generous! We exchanged it for a gorgeous dress and a lovely blouse.

i have been given random cast-offs from random people at the gym that have been really useful.

However OHs mum ALWAYS gives something cotton and dressy and scratchy and completely unpractical!

I have suggested that soft trousers and tops are very useful but seems she just cant resist something SHE would like to see Anjali in!

I've tried to sell on ebay but anything over newborn doesnt seem to sell so well - in the end ive taken to clothing recyle bins and hoped theyve ended up in a poor country.

wish i had the guts to tell the people its not to my taste lmao i am soooo gutless

thankfully we have only recieved really nice things for him to wear, no taking mil's xmas present back even if i didnt like it as it was 2nd hand    you can imagine my face when i saw a 2nd hand crusty baby walker come out the wrapping paper which at the time he was 6 days old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just wait for a while, then if any body asks i just say well hes grown out of them now so you wont see him wearing them.
Harder now he is staying in clothes longer.
