Hi there,

I just wanted to know if there are any women here considering an unasisted childbirth?

This means a homebirth without a midwife or doctor etc (not being alone per se).

My husband and I are planning an UC he will be there to support me and my best friend will be looking after my toddler.

I know it is very unusual but I was just wondering if there are some more people who have been thinking of this and or perhaps already have done this.

Love,
Helen.

no way id be way to scared that something would go wrong but i seen a program on it once she didnt have anti natal checks either and the baby was coming out feet 1st as she delivered in the bath eek i wouldnt be brave enough

Oh gosh, no way could I do that!! 1 because the mw's helped and supported me more than my OH and mum and 2 because they can help you push when it's the right time!
What if something was to go wrong? I had problems with my first birth and if I didn't have an op straight after, it could've caused alot of problems!

Personally, I'd like the medical advice, help and guidance that doctors and midwives provide.

However, if the woman is confident enough that there is no danger to herself or her child, then I don't see a problem with UC at all - after all, that's how things used to be done.

I would suggest medical checks before and afterwards though, to be on the safe side.

Good luck with your UC Helen, I hope it all goes well, and can't wait to read the birth story :) x

I could never do it personally but each to their own. I distinctly remember watching a documentary about a woman who gave birth to her baby on a private beach in a tide pool. They were hippies though and had checks before hand to ensure baby would be fine. xXx

what do you do about clipping the cord ect and how do you know if the amount of blood you lose is normal im quite curious still wouldnt be brave enough lol plus no gas and air err no thanks
hope it alll goes nice and smooth for you

I was thinkin the same...also how do u know if placenta has come away whole etc?

I think ur v brave to do this...personally I love the idea of a home birth but can't have 1 due to vbac but I'd definitely want a professional wiv me...just in case x

I like th idea but I wouldnt feel confident doing it for my first. I'm the same, how would you deliver the placenta and stuff? What do you do if the baby doesn't breathe? That would panic me if something went wrong. I think thats why I wouldn't do it. Also, some people go into labour naturally, but what about those that labour for ages and need a section? How would you know? These would be the questions spinning round my head lol.

I really hope it's everything you want, and goes according to plan. X

its easy saying this was how it was done back in the day but back in the day alot of mothers and babies didnt survive due to complications
im going for a home birth but only if the midwife gets here otherwise i will be straight in that hospital lol
my sister almost bled to death and that was on her 5th so complications can arise no matter how many babies you have had before

I had my first totally fine but my second I bleed terrible after the birth and with my 3rd too I had people running everywhere doing all sorts to me and I could tell my the midwife's face she was worried. I would of been terrified if I had of been on my own and god know's what would of happen to me

Blimey your really brave Helen - good luck to you and your hubby, I guess you are doing lots of reading up just incase to be prepared. Could you have UC birth but at a mates house local to a hospital , just incase , I would worry if there were any complications, so much can go wrong.

Wishing you well with yours , not long now X

I'm hoping for a home birth, but with midwives on hand.

The idea of a UC sounds beautiful, but not for me. I want someone on hand who knows what they're doing and can reassure me that everything is ok.

I really wish you the best for it and hope it goes to plan. I would love to read your birth story!
