Twins on an early scan

Hi all

I was wondering when people first saw twins on an ultrasound? I had a scan today, they dated me at 6 weeks but forgot to measure me, however they have asked me to go back in 2 weeks as they could see a heartbeat but they were unsure if there was also a second. They want me to go back to confirm. Hopefully I'll have a better idea of my due date also.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Was it twins or just a blip in the screen?

Thanks x

hi,

i had an early scan, and i had a folical from each ovary meaning i had ovulated from both signs, in the end there is only one but they called me back in to check

its difficult for them to see! happy 9 months

I had a scan at 7+3, but measured 6+5. I had fertility treatment (clomid) and had ovulated from both sides so they had a really good look around and said there was only one there. They seemed pretty confident there was only one and that it was in the correct place. I do know someone who had one missed at an early scan and found out later on there were two though, I'm not sure how common it is.

Hi there, the same thing happened to me. At 6 weeks they saw 1 heartbeat and another 'blob'. I was rescanned at 9 weeks, turns out the 'blob' was another sac but there was no fetal pole :( They said this would eventually reabsorb back in the body - which it has and was confirmed at my dating scan. I think it can be referred to as a vanishing twin?

Hopefully you'll have a better idea if you get another scan?

Oh okay that makes sense. I'm happy either way. Twins would be amazing especially as I would never predicted them for us but. I've always wanted 2 children and I think I'd be a little sad to just be pregnant once. I suppose maybe we could try again much further down the line. I think our house just wouldn't fit more than 4

The 8 week scan is all booked. I'm so glad they suggested it, I'd be terrible waiting for 5 weeks to find out. There was a doctor and a nurse present and they both saw something else flickering and showed it to me, stupidly I forgot to ask for photos :wall2:
