Hi Guys,

Ive just had a miscarriage and im not actually ready to begin TTC yet but I have a few questions for when i do, hope someone can help!

1/ Will I need to use ovulation testing kit to accurately see when I ov?

2/ How soon after first AF is recommended to start trying again?

3/ What is the likelyhood that my menstrual cycle will be really messed up?

4/ It took me 7months to fall PG last time. I have been told that you are more likely to get pregnant after a miscarriage - How true is this?

Thanks!

hi there, sorry for your loss and good luck when you decide to start TTC again.

the only question i can really answer is the first one...there are various ways to pinpoint when you've ovulated

1) ovulation predictor tests which measure a rise in your lutenising (spl) hormone, which is usually increased 24-48h before you ovulate

2)using a ferning microscope/saliva microscope, something to do with a change in consistency in your saliva when you are about to ovulate

3) measuring basal body temp, but this would only confirm ovulation has occurred once it has already happened, cannot be used to predict when ovulation will occur

4) monitoring fertility signs such as an increase in cervical mucas to a more stretchy variety around the time when you ovulate.

hope that helps, and i'm sure others will have loads more advice xxx

Hi happy-chick

Chellie has answered the first question about seeing when you ovulate.

It could take a really variable amount of time for first AF to arrive- in some ladies it arrives bang on cue about 28d after mc but can take many months if you are unlucky.

Some people experience altered cycle lengths after, some return to normal length quickly.

I think there is no hard and fast rule as to when to start trying- prob ask your doc for specific advice for your situation. i have decided not to wait but then mine has dragged on for months so I figure everything has settled inside as much as it ever will.

Lastly, there is anecdotal evidence on a lot of places on the internet that many women very quickly become pregnant after their loss- I am hoping this is true.

Good luck with the ttc when you are ready for it

pm me if you ever want to chat or ask more about my experience

Hello Happychick

So sorry to hear about your loss, I had a m/c in Dec 05 at 9wks, my doctor told me to wait 1 month or until I had at least one normal period before ttc again. It had taken me 7 months to concieve the first time and when we started ttc we didnt use any kits etc, it took me 8 months this time. My periods were not regular before the first pregnancy and I hoped they might straighten out after the M/C, but they didnt. Every one is different, we started trying as soon as we were able but some of this was due to my age.

good luck for when you start again.

Hi,

I had an early mc in nov 05, bled for 3 weeks then AF came 3 weeks later. It was regular afterwards although cycle length was shorter than usual (every 26 days) I found out I was pg again last march and now have a lovely 3 month old little girl. So in my experience it didnt take too long for AF to sort out. All the best for the future x
By the way, they told me that as soon as you have 1 'normal' period you can try again.

Thanks Guys, Will go and see my doc regarding some of the issues and see what he says.

Thanks for the advice, it has offered some reasurrance which is good :)

Anymore info/stories anyone has would be great!
