As you no Harley has bad eczema on his face, its infected at the moment so for now im using a steriod cream for the next 2 weeks then im told to just treat the eczema as normal??

i have always been using e45 and double base, but both creams just tend to irritate the skin more, and after a bath Harley is at his worse. i only use tesco baby top to toe wash.

is there a wash that will help the eczema and a good cream?

or any bubble baths that are aimed at helping eczema?

well hassan had bad eczema on his arms and legs as well as sometimes on his face and i was told by my GP not to use any kind of baby soap or bubble bath and just use aqueous cream instead which made it a bit better.

aqueous cream ? is that some thing i can get over the counter?

yeah, it's not expensive but u can also get it perscribed by your doctor so u get it for free - they usually come in big tubs from almost anywhere like boots, tescos, asda or chemist

i think it's also due to change of weather coz in the summer it just seemed to clear up completely and now the weather is getting cold and damp it seemed to be creeping back which i'm dreading!!

you could try a pure aloe vera gel, that's good for excema. You can get a tube of it from Holland & Barretts for about £3.

whats that for? in the bath?
or to rub on his skin in the day?

You rub it in his skin as often as you need to. It's quite nice and cooling aswell.

Dionne, why hasnt your Dr prescribed you any thing?
Charlie has had a few combinations of things, oilatum and aqueous cream didnt work, nor did E45. She is now using Balneum bath oil, and Epaderm cream, which can be used as a bath lotion, a body wash but we mainly use it for moisturising after her bath (when she is worst too!) Its like lard, but it is great. Id see your Dr again hun, it will be cheaper for you as your prescriptions will be free, and its better to get something to prevent a big flare up like Harley has just had.
I personally dont ever use any bubble baths or shampoos or soaps, as you just never know what may cause a flare up.
Hope he is better today?

When Ewan had excema the doct gave him AVEENO bath oil , i think you can buy it but he gave it on prescription and that seems to help, it is an oatmeal based wash you can put it in the bath or use it as a wash.

Also i think i've said before about aloe propolis creme, it contains aloevera and propolis which is a natural antibiotic, i use that on ewans flare ups which are rare now. and have steroid on stand by if it gets really bad.

Dionne if you can still get any breastmilk out that is good for excema :)

i was really anoyed acually... when the doc said its infected excema and gave me the cream to use for 2weeks till the infection has gone i said. "so once the infection has gone and jusy the excema is still there what shall i use?" he said what ever you like as long as it is moisterising? i said e45 aint been working though he said just try some thing else then?

bloody idiot

yes i still have lots of breastmilk when i squeeze :D

NHS is so crap, they could have given you some prescription moisturiser.
E45 can some times make eczema worse, my hubby can't use E45 because of this.
Doc also gvae me aveeno creme ... i'd try and see another doc next time.
They always make me feel like i'm being a right idiot.

thats just how it was i felt a prat he made me feel 2 foot tall.

his face was bleeding and leaking pus. i thought it would be cruel to make him wait nearly a week for a docs appointment to i had to take him to the out of hrs service, the doc said "its nothing serious" made me feel so stupid. i always feel they treat me like im thick untill i mention i have a child and Harley aint my first then they do change there atittude a bit.

il book an appointment for in a week at my docs then, but i no when i go his face will look ok because the steriod cream would have cleared it for the time being

Dionne,

Katie has Oliatum which is used as a bubblebath, makes the water look like milk, then I use aqueous cream as a soap and once she is out of the bath she has Aveeno cream. This seems to work and I get all of these off the doctor on repeat prescription. I also have a steriod cream for her to use when it gets really bad but the doctors told me to use it very sparingly as it can cause scarring on babies like stretch marks so it shouldn't be used too much.

I would ask to be referred to a specialist at the hospital about it, one of my friends has to take her little boy as he gets it really bad.

I have also noticed that Katie's seems to have got worse now that the weather is changing.

really???? im so gad you told me that because it says use sparingly but i didnt no why i just thought the stuff is great il use it all the time as the tube is huge! so glad you said that else ild you it every day

hun i know hw frustrating excema can be as we tried so may different (prescribed and over counter) creams before we found something that worked. like you we have a strong cream that we use to treat any bad outbreaks (Eumovate) and we were given Cetraben to use daily to keep it at bay. works like a charm now!

unfortunately it can be a case of trial and error though. alex had it for a good few months till we got the right stuff for him - was a regular at the health visitors and docs!

heres a list of that we tried to give you a few ideas (didnt work for alex but htey may be right for Harley).

diprobase,E45, Aqueaous, Epaderm, Oilatum, Bepanthan( is actually a bum cream but docs recommended it as it worked on his nappy rash - worked a little to clear it up but came back really quickly). also tried baby oil, olive oil, breast milk and vasaline!

shame you dont live nearer me as i have barely used pots of all of the above you could try them all

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

lol il get trying some things then till i find some thing right for him, just it bleeds alot and is broken skin and he yelps when i put cream on, then he scratchs and makes it worse

fucidin is what iv been given to use for 2 weeks. twice a day for first week then once a day 2nd week.

its cleared it loads though.

Dionne, id definatly change Dr hun, he sounds a right tosser! NO excema isnt that serious, compared with anything life threatening, but if it WAS derious surely you'd go to A+E??? but it is painful and itchy, and thats from my adult point of veiw, god knows what its like for a baby. Stupid man.
Id refuse to see the silly old man. Charlie had a patch slighly bigger than Harleys, but touch wood it doesnt seem to have come back. You will only get a referal to a specialist if it is re-occuring.
Hope he's doing ok now??

cat had a great recipe for a cream, i think she has started selling it now? i wonder if she has a website...

the only cream i found helped with the dryness of ruben's skin was dermacare by vaseline intensive care! his skin is lovely now i use it every day on him, but you should have seen it before...

he still gets the odd breakout on his cheeks, mainly if there is a change in weather, but it's not been infected lately
