My DH and i both like the name Henry James but my SIL said yesturday that it is too british. Does anyone else think this? What does too british mean?

Her sons are called Joshua Joel and Andrew Luke

Henry James is a lovely name I think. And I like that it's British. Not sure that anything can be too British....?? It's not like you're gonna call him London!!

I think they are both lovely names. Stick with them if its what you like :)

I think some people see them as old fashioned/traditional names, but of course it is not a bad thing. I know plenty of parents are still going for these names which have stood the test of time and not been fad names or something very unusual.

I myself am stuck with a 'fad' name and it's caused me no end of headaches over the years. While I accept it now, as a teen and in my 20's it was awful and people pre/mis -conceptions can be soul destroying. I really resented my father's choice. I am so far removed from the stereotype its unreal and for years now have asked friends to call me Sherry (which is the pet form of it anyway). I certainly didn't thank my father for naming me it. And its made me doubly sure I am going to give any children I have good solid names that are not fad related to spelt oddly. I had enough of being picked on at school and still get the looks today from some people in my age group. Grrrrr :shakehead:

I consider names like Henry, James, Edward, William and the like to be good classic English/British names.

I think Henry James is lovely. And I'm not sure how a name is 'too' british either... I love traditional names for boys

I think its a nice name with a good ring to it, you cant get too british or traditional - ignore people that make comments lilke that. They obvioudsly want to firce their oewn input on to you!

My grandad was Henry james which is why i like it. I never met my grandad as he died before i was born so i wanted something which had a meaning behind it. Plus i really like both names!

I really like it. I think it sounds british but not in a bad way if you get what I mean. The first word I thought of when I read the name was "noble".

I like "solid" names too. I have an Oliver John and an Oscar Walter.

i think its a really nice name - little baby henry sounds cute as anything :D

your sil is just being silly, we have stopped telling people about names we've though of coz someone always has a daft comment to offer!

pot calling kettle black - her sons names are just a traditional as the lovely name you have chosen.

stick to it - my advice - dont tell anyone you know (we are the exception of course) as everyone always has an opinion and not always one you want to hear!

when i was named my maternal grandma said she had given dogs better names! (even wrote it in the baby card she sent!!) the fact that i am named after my paternal grandma may have been part of it!

nothing wrong with a classic british name! sounds great!

I think its been said, but its never gonna go out of fashion.Id rather have a Henry James than a Starburst Moonchild... :)

I think your names are lovely. The name Cyril was probably cutting edge once! I like names that aren't going to go out of fashion, they've been around for centuries because they're good names :D
