Tomorrow night..

I am planning to have an evening and night off breast feeding, basically because i havent had a chance to 'go out with the girls' for so long and also we have arranged for Liams mum to come and have some much needed bonding time with the baby (i dont get on with her) so... for Friday night, i will be off duty

Anyhoo, Jasper has taken to cluster feeding in the evenings... to be honest he spends ALL evening wanting to feed, from about 7pm onwards and i am a little nervous about how this fits in with expressed bottle feeding

we have loads of milk in the freezer, i am planning to express another 16 ounces before hand.

we also have a tin of Hipp Organic in the cupboard from when Jasper was tongue tie and we ended up giving him 2 ounces of formula

Do you think he will be okay? if hes got into the habit of feeding all evening will he handle a bottle? if hes struggling can we give him a couple of ounces of formula just to top him up do you think? just for the once?

any advice greatly appreciated xxx

I'm not really sure as Odhrán didn't take very well to the breastfeeding.. But I hope Jasper copes well (which I'm sure he will) and you enjoy your night off

How did it go?

I am going to a bbq tomorrow, so getting a day off, so i can have a drink (i cant wait for a bit of a break) Did your boobs hurt and did it affect your milk supply? How long did you wait before feeding again? (sorry for all the questions!)

I am going to give zach some formula today to see if he takes it and express as well, so he can have both tomorrow.

Hi guys We managed it! we had a few bumps along the way

We tried a doctor brown bottle and at first were really impressed with how slowly he was drinking the milk, after about 20mins though i had a look at the bottle and he hadnt had any of it! The teat has such a tiny hole in it that it got blocked instantly - total rubbish!

So then we moved on to an avent airflow bottle, which just fed him so quickly he threw it all back up again! Then we tried tomee tipee and it was great, we fed him with those for the night and then Liam did during the day as well

He fed an ounce or two each feed but didnt seem to be taking in much milk, i realised why that evening but i will get to that.

When i came back from my day-time dates, i realised my boobs were a bit engorged and the breastpump wasnt helping very much (because they were so full and i didnt want to make more milk because i had been pumping regularly through the day, so i got in the bath and put a hot wet towel across my boobs and dipped my nipple into the water, the milk just flooded from me it was really quite crazy to watch and it relieved it really naturally and nicely.

Thats when i noticed that some of the bits around my nipple (that they grab onto and chomp) was depressed and where Jasper was chomping down he wasnt sucking any milk from a few of my ducts, so i had a bit of a lump forming which isnt good

I finally got him back on the boob around 6pm last night, i never thought i would miss breast feeding but i missed my little boy SO much, it was horrid not to have him feeding from me and i was terrified he wouldnt remember me and would be stuck on bottles...

He was SO excited that i was back, he did his little pinched mouth face and instantly latched on... for 2 hours!

I moved his position around so he was in the rugby ball position and latched him onto the nipple with the lump and after a little while he got used to the new position and managed to unblock the duct (good baby)

So... he fed for 2 hrs then had an hours break (he wasnt hardcore feeding, more comfort feeding i think) and then last night he fed every 1.5hrs for about 30mins (so i got about an hours sleep at a time, in the morning Liam took him downstairs and let me have 3 hours solid sleep (fed Jasper a bottle) which was lovely of him.

So all in all its been really beneficial to have a bit of a break (though i think the amount of time was too long, 18hrs we fed him on bottles ) because the tommee tippee bottles really helped him flange his lips and the slight engorgement meant i found my blocked duct before it became a real problem

plus... he showed me that he didnt forget me and he loves me and is happiest when he is on my boobie
