Hi guys

I have my 20 weeks scan in 2 weeks. With Jack we didn't find out the sex, this time I would really like to but my OH doesn't, and he thinks it would spoil the surprise and the labour.

I wondered if there was any of you out there that had experienced a pregnancy knowing and a pregnancy not knowing, how you felt for each, the differences, did it spoil it for you, and which you preferred?

Any info or advice would be fab, thanks!

Im happy i found out as now i call my baby by his name
He;s Collier :D not it
And he's a He, :D not it or baby
And MY SON, :D not just my baby

But i think also keeping it a secret is a bit like xmas you have no idea what your getting maing the whole experience more exciting. :cheer:

So its a personal choice.
I always thought id never want to find out but once i got to the scan day i just couldnt help myself I HAD TO KNOW, im not one for patience i didnt want ot wait.

Just make to right decision for you and you OH what FEELS right.
Lol Sarah

With James I found out at the 20 week scan. This time I had to wait until my 4d scan at 27 weeks.
I really did not like those 7 weeks of not knowing, especially when others at the same stage knew what their's was and were picking names and buying pink or blue baby clothes.
I feel closer to mine now that I know he's a boy, he's my son and not an ambiguous 'it'. It feels more real and I can more easily imagine what it will be like when he's here and I have two boys :D

With Nathan I found out and it was much better being able to call him Nathan, he or him instead of 'it' I also felt that once I knew he was a boy I bonded with him, picturing my little boy inside there ect. It also made it easier for buying things, didn't have to stick to neutral colours :) Makes it easier to pick a name aswell because you only have to pick a name for either a boy or girl

I will definately be finding out this time again because of the reasons above but also because I just wouldn't be able to go through the whole pregnancy without knowing

Id just have to find out, the sonographer would know and that would mean someone else in the world knew what my baby was before me and I wouldnt like that.

i HAD to know!! because i'm so nosey! lol especially as its my first :D

we didnt find out and we made the right decision for us i think, im glad we dont know as its something else for me to look forward to, i think its up to each person and a very personal choice

With my 2 sons I knew because I used to be a doctor so used to looking at scans and it was unmistakeable  - didnt know with dd - just didnt look - we were convinced she was a boy and called her Samuel - didnt buy pink newborn stuff until after she was born and really got a shock when she popped out (especially with a 45 minute labour - the whole thing was a shock and we named her with a name that wasnt even on our list ) Decided to ask this time as wanted to make it ewasier for the older three - talking about a sister and helping me chose names plus I have had the fun of buying a few pink newborn bits - BUT I am soooo worried we have it wrong - dont mind boy or girl but going through and pregnancy convinced it is a girl for a boy to pop out would be confusing for the children - we are pretty sure - the sonographer was sure, I had a good look and yesterday at my 4d scan they were pretty sure but it is more possible to get it wrong with a girl - oh well we'll soon know for sure

This is my 3rd baby, I already have 1 of each but my DH couldn't wait to find out...

Pink Baby Dust to you :)

I didn't find out and I don't want to know tbh - prefer the surprise ;)

well we tossed a coin in the end and the winner had the final decision, and the winner was.............................ME!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Still not decided 100% if I want to know as my sister said a few things that made me think.

Got scan Friday morning, will let you all know!!! woo! its so exciting!!!!! :cheer:

With my DD1 we didn't find out as I loved the idea of a suprise after the hard work of labour but TBH when she was finally born and the announcement 'its a girl' as made I didn't feel the excitement I thought I would, I was just so glad that she was ok and it was over, I really didn't care what bits she did or didn't have and it shocked me to feel that way.

With DD2 we decided to find out and for us it was the best decision :D . I loved knowing who was growing inside me, I feel it gave DD1 chance to bond with her little sister even before she was here and on a practical level it was helpful to know what we needed to get (or not). I had a 4D scan too which confirmed her sex so I was very confident that she would come out the flavour we were expecting

We again decided to find out with this baby and I am loving knowing she is my little girl in here. I have another 4D scan next month so will have her sex reconfirmed then.

It is a very personal decision to know or not. For me I would choose to know every time but i know lots of peope who love the suprise. Do what feels right for you :D

I found out with harrison and we will find out this time round, Mainly because we need to know if harrison will end up sharig his room with a lil brother or if we are going to have to move house or find a way to decorate it so they can both be in the same room?/????? Sounds a silly reason but thats all i think about.

Also i have looked at unisex clothes and the choice isn't that amazing.

We're not finding out with this one, although I do have relapses where I think I want to know.

This is the first though so I think we'd probably make a diferent decision if it was a subsequent baby.

A x
