Hi ladies so I've noticed the last couple of days harry has been feeding well and he like to suck on me and the last couple of feeds he's throwing up because he's full so I was wondering should I give him a dummy to suck or not?

Before I had Noah, I decided I didn't want him having a dummy because of all the negatives it can bring, but I did buy a pack of 2 dummies just in case.

A few days after he was born, he had to be taken to the SCBU and the midwife asked if I had a dummy for him as it's meant to help soothe them more, so I let him have one and let him have it since (he's now 7 weeks old). He only has it when he's falling asleep, which I don't mind.

I think if you give it to them but after a while begin restricting time they have it (so cut it down to just sleep time etc) then it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm going to start letting Noah have it less and less when he's 6 months +.

He loves sucking on it, and it helps him calm down and sleep, which is lovely :)

Yeah, I'm sure me and my siblings had a dummy growing up I especially remember my little brother having one and he was breastfed aswell I'll ask my midwife tomorrow when she visits thank you xxx

I did give Henry one as he was using me for comfort, and when I was sore and cracked it was really painful :( so gave him a dummy and it helped as he calmed down

I've been breastfeeding Noah too, and the dummy hasn't confused him at all. I bought him an orthadontic one from Asda which is the one he always takes, and bought some newborn Avent ones but he doesn't like them.

i was very anti using a dummy however my son has had bad colic (problems with burping down the way rather than up) and we have found that it actually helps him pass his wind as well as comforts him when he is upset. i am limiting how much he can have it - when he has bad trapped wind only. but my thinking now is, if it helps him then why not...

We didn't wanna use one but the first night home after being in scbu she just wanted to suck constant. She wanted to be on th breast 24/7 or bottle. She was full up but wanted the dummy for comfort. Some babies just want to suck all the time. Hv and midwife both said some babies just need it.
Grace will only take mam dummies though x

It's funny how most people are really anti-dummies before having a baby but once they have one they end up using one! I'm not anti-dummies at all, but Poppy only had one for about 1 month max before she wouldn't take it anymore. It's like she suddenly didn't want it anymore after about three weeks of using it. I'd say try using one :)
