Right ladies,

I know it's early to say as I won't find out until this Friday wheter or not I will be induced but I am in 2 minds. I thought about it after my last breathing attack on Sunday and was OK with being induced but now I can't get it out of my head that I want to go full term.

If they induce me, it will be a week before my due date, so, waiting an extra week shouldn't be a problem? Or would it not be a difference, in one hand, I get to have my baby early, yay but on the other hand, I want to have my baby natural.

If he is 100% fine like thy say he is, weighing 3.5 kilos, which is 7lbs, maybe he'll be 8lbs by the time he is born or 8.5lbs, not so big for me, I am 5ft 10 and have child bearing hips

If you have been induced before, how was the experience for you?

I don't have any advice for you babes, but it must be quite a difficult decision to make. I'm not sure what I would do if in the same situation.

I don't want to scare you but I have heard that induction can take a long time and you would have to stay in hospital so they can keep an eye on you to give you more of the gel stuff after 6 hours. (Not sure if you are the same over there)

Sending you lots of hugs and let us know what you decide.

From what I've heard I would not recommend induction. It can be a lot more painful, take longer, and have more complications... I'm a big fan of letting the baby do it's own thing and come out when it's ready.

Depends how you're induced (A membrane sweep, Inserting a pessary or gel containing prostaglandin into the vagina to ripen the cervix, breaking the waters, Drip clicky) and even then everyone has differing experiences so not really an easy question to answer
In my experience, I had the drip induction and I did not deal very well with it, as my contractions went from fine and irregular to constant and very, very uncomfortable, to the point I chose to have the epidural.
Had I not been in labour 3 days and told of a possible infection risk to Isaac I wouldn't have chose induction, it can lead to intervention, in my case forceps and an episiotimy, intervention can slow or change what would be a natural and safer birth experience, in my honest opinion, the drip started at 3AM'ish and Isaac wasn't born until 1:41PM. But many women have happy induced experiences too, so like I said, not an easy question to answer :)
If you can do 39weeks, I would dare to say you can endure a week, but if you do, just rest, rest, rest and I do hope whatever way LO makes their journey into the world, that it is safe and smiley, very best wishes

Thank you so much for you replies, jsut have to wait till Friday to find out but think i will refuse to be induced!

HI

Ive been induced with all 3 of mine, the first 2 both at 38 weeks with high bp and they were both quit different experiences

First time round it didnt seem to work very well and when the contractions did start they were really painful from the word go and quite close together. labour was quick though lasting only 2hrs 10mins

Second time round it worked quicker and same again the contractions were very strong but i was more prepared for it 2nd time round and the labour was only 55mins

Third time with tia, i was due to be induced at term because my bp was ok but they didnt wanna risk it me going any further. But i went in the day before niggling and with a show and they decided to induce me rather than mess me about. But it worked strt away. They put the gel in at half 6 and ten minutes later i was getting contractions but they built up more slowly this time. about an hour and half later i had gas and air and ten minutes later tia was born 8lb 1oz

I think if youve had a baby before it works quicker second/third time round and for some induction takes ages  Im 5'10" with size 9 feet  and i had no problems at all but everyone is different.

If you prepared for it then i would say go for it but in my honest opinion from my experiences although you get the pains more intense and closer together you body doesnt have time to adjust and it can be very hard but with tia it was lovely cos it was more natural.

I dont see why they would induce you if your not having any health problems and the baby isnt huge why put you through all that, but i can totally sympathise with you on the being uncomfortable front

Hope everything goes ok for you tomorrow and you get to make the decision that is right for you

My midwife wants to induce me if the baby gets bigger than 3.5kg... but Tia was 3.9kg came out on her own time, and I had a short labour. I'm refusing point blank to be induced under those circumstances... You have to remember that in Mediterranean countries the people are generally a lot smaller and they just can't handle big births... But JB I'm like you, I'm 5ft 6 my DH is 6ft 1... i have enormous child birthing hips (size 7 1/2 feet atm)... so... Its normal for me to have big babies.

Anyone I have ever spoken to who has had an induction, has commented that it either took AGES to get going and were contracting for days so were exhausted by the time the big push came.... or... They had a relatively short labour, but it was extremely painful and they didn't get to have pain relief. Or in the case of my friend her induced labour was only 4 hours long and they gave her pethadine after 2 hours...so when her son was born, he was all drugged up and wouldn't b/f.

Babies come in their own time, and unless there is a significant risk to their health, i.e. they are in distress/low waters etc.. there doesn't seem to be any reason to have an induction.

I was induced with my 1st and it was a horrible very painful birth, i always said i would refuse to be induced again and wait till it happens natural, lucky they all came on there own.... Good luck for friday
