I posted earlier about H using me as a dummy, and mentioned that he was having very long feeds on the boob (he gets very fussy at the end too).

He started doing the dummy thing again after the last feed, so I put him on the other boob & he started feeding! Fed for another 20 minutes, and much less fussing.

So now I'm thinking he was stopping as my boob was empty? isn't it a bit too young to be taking both breasts though? I'm worried that he's going to be getting too much foremilk again!

I'm sure the guidelines are offer both breasts. He may just be thirsty. I only tend to offer one side but if he's unsettled after the first I put him on the other boob xx

I never have done before as he's always seemed to be satisfied after one boob. I guess ill just play it by ear & offer the other if he seems fussy x

Once Evan went from boob to boob - 5 times! Obviously a growth spurt :)

I was told offer both regardless and Ben uses both constantly

Even if they seem finished/contented?

I've always offered both boobs at every feed, and he takes both every time! My feeds go on for at least an hour a time though ;-(. Guidelines say both boobs from birth I think? Even if content, as u can't over feed a breast fed baby. Xxx

Not speaking from experience here as this is my first pregnancy but I had my breast feeding antenatal class this evening and MW said about this and advised that they may want both breasts and we should definitely offer the other breast if baby wants more as probably just didn't completely finish off his meal on first breast.

I guess just go with what baby is wanting, good luck!

Mine always wants both and has done since days old!!! I think she empties both. I really don't think you can overfeed a baby!

Always offer both hun, start the next feed with the boob you offered last. X

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

I only offered one side until about three months as I had oversupply. But then he would be a bit fussy soon after being fed so I tried him on the other side, and as soon as he started having both boobs at each feed he then started going 2-3 hours between feeds.

Standard advice is usually to offer one side until it is empty then offer the other. If you have an oversupply just giving one side per feed or the same side for more than one feed can help it to regulate. Switching sides several times during feeding helps build supply. You just have to experiment and see what works for you and it will probably change from time to time depending on your current supply and LOs needs.
