thats good then hunni, he's better off been a thumb sucker than to have a dummie as dummies leave gaps inbetween the teeth. plus think how much cheaper it is too you dont have to clean it or sterlize it.
We've given up on the dummy as well Evie is a firm thumb sucker. I wasn't keen but it does have one great advantage - no getting up in the night to shove it back in - she does that herself now!
My boy is a thumb sucker too. I don't mind at all. I'm still a thumb sucker. It's never affected me or my teeth. It was and probably still is my comforter. If I'm tired or worried, I'll do it. I would prefer him to like his thumb then a dummy. But that's just my personal preference.x

Dummies don't leave gaps in the teeth.. Thumb sucking can damage the roof of the mouth and gums which in turn affect the teeth.. Numerous members of my family have had teeth problems due to thumb sucking and none due to dummies.. You can't take a thumb away but you can take a dummy. My great uncle was 72 when he died and still sucked his thumb.. My 30 yr old cousin still does it and her teeth are horrendous due to the roof of her mouth being pushed forward by her thumb..
Each to their own, yes a baby looks cute sucking a thumb but a grown adult doesn't!
Lily was able to put her own dummy in at about 5-6months..
My opinion on that not looking for a row before one starts lol!
My sister is the same, she's now 23 and still does it, often without realising, I'm sure my mum wishes she'd have stopped her if she could. It has dramatically altered the shape of the roof of her mouth, but to fix it the orthodontist said he would have had to break her jaw and she didn't fancy that! Also her right thumb is a lot longer! I know it's difficult but if you can stop it, I would, my son had a dummy, we got rid of it when he was 2, he's now 7 and his teeth are fine x
WSS...
Between thumb and dummy I wouldn't think twice on choosing the dummy...
I am not planning on either of them but at the first sign of thumb sucking, dummy goes in and mittens or gloves on the little hands...
just though is only what I think...
I did see adults with horrendous teeth and gum problems because of thumb sucking and I don't like the sight of an adult sucking his thumb...
If it comes to a dummy at the Easter bunny it goes when it's the right time...
thanks ladies, i am worried bout it but i can tell you now its not easy to stop, i tried pulling it out his mouth and replacing with dummy a few times today but he just spits the dummy out oh dear!
I hate to tell you this Hope81, but I was shoving that dummy in like nobodys business and put scratch mitts on her when she started. She spat the dummy out and sucked her thumb THROUGH the mitts. You may not have a choice...
All my girls started thumb sucking and from the first time I made sure it stopped and I found it easy.. It's not the thumb they want it's the suck.. Yes my girls sucked their mittens and their fist and anything that went into their mouth but it didn't mean they wanted a thumb or a dummy for that matter.. It's the suck..
Everyone has their own opinions and they are of course entitled to it, but babies aren't born thumb suckers.. They can in the womb and some have thumb blisters from it at birth but that's because they have nothing else being offered.. They adjust to nipple and teat.. They can adjust to dummy.. So many varieties to suit each baby.. Jaycee hated anything silicone so she had to have latex dummies and teats..
Personally I wouldnt promote thumb sucking.. It was hard to get the dummy off Jaycee but she done it eventually.. Ellie just stopped on her own.. Lily still gets her thumb in there to chew but she loves her dummy x
Yup lily refused a dummy she would gag on it and scream I was actually advised to use it a we thought she had a poor suck reflex at first . She wanted her thumb and that was that , I actually just kept taking it away from her mouth an age eventually gave up and sucks a blanket instead.
Well ofc you are not going to cut the thumb out of the baby....
What I meant is that if I can avoid it I will by using mittens, swaddling, a pacifier... it's a habit and I consider it a bad one (personal opinion) so perseverance and we will see where that will lead....
I got 4 different types of pacifiers though I don't like the idea of them too much.
In case of thumb sucking though I hope one of those will work...
