Hi, we are team green, due in 8 days & still have no definite names!

I think we will be ok for girls names but we are really struggling with boys names.

What are people's thoughts on the name Wilfred? This was my Granddads name, & I think Wilfie is quite cute for a little baby. Then when he gets a little older he could choose between being Wilfie, Wilf, will, Fred or Freddie.

I don't LOVE the name but I do like it & OH likes it too. I know old names are coming back in but my only concern is is this still a little bit too old fashioned?! Plus my boss is called Wilf so I know everyone at work will make comments that I've named him after him!!

What do u's think?

The alternative is probably going to be Thomas after OHs dad, which I do quite like but it's really popular now which puts me off & also everyone is presuming we are going to be calling the baby it!

Thanks for anybody's help!

I like the shortened nicknames, but have to admit I find Wilfred a bit old fashioned - however, it would certainly grow to fit bubs as I feel all names do (in that 'couldn't imagine them being anything different' way). But my concern would be that you don't love it.

If you love a name I think that's more important than whether it's popular - both mine will have really popular names cos they happen to be names we totally love so, even though I do wish they were less prevalent, I can get over that being able to call my Los names we love x

Thanks Muguboo, the problem is all of the boys names I love my OH doesn't so I think it's going to be a case of compromising on a name anyway! I wouldn't say I love the name Thomas either...ah it's so hard! I guess Thomas is just a slightly less "controversial" name than Wilfred if that's the right word to use!

Yeah that's a toughy - I sometimes suspect that my hubby agrees with my choices and says he loves them just to keep the peace lol

I have to agree that I think Wilfred is very old fashioned but you could call him Wilfred and just shorten it to Freddie, which is cute and suits a child and an adult x

Aw I quite like I! I think babes quite often grow to suit their names in a strange kinda way... a friend of a friend has a wee one called Walter and when you see him you just cannot imagine him being called anything else, it suits him down to a T.

I worked with a man called Wilfred and we all called him bill. I like it! Xxx

I'd go for Wilfred as I love old fashioned, traditional names. Thomas is a bit too safe for my liking. Freddie is cute too as a nickname! x

My sister had Wilfred picked for her LO but ended up having a girl! I love it! Baby Wilf just sounds so adorable! I think that it is one of those names that in future will become very fashionable again. Baby will suit any name it is given so if you like it go for it and everyone will get used to it :)

IMHO, I think Wilfred is very old fashioned but I do like what it can be shortened too. If I have a boy his name is going to be Freddie (that's final!) but with everything it's completely your decision, I wouldn't care what other people think tbh! He's going to be YOUR baby so call him what YOU want! Xx

Thanks ladies, still not sure aaah! It's such a big decision, I think it's going to have to be a "wait to see what he/she looks like" job! Why is picking names so hard!

yes Wilfred is old fashioned but it is really cute :D
