Started weaning couple of weeks ago following the weaning meeting and booklet from my HV

It had said to give baby rice for 2 weeks then 1 of either potato carrot apple or pear each for 4 days and was planning on doing all my own cooking for her
I started the potato yesterday and she hated it so said i might just use ellas kitchen to get her started then when she is on slightly bigger portions make up my own

But apart from the fruit they seem to be mixtures of 3 foods in the 4 month packs
Just wondering who used them and how they got on

I know HV booklet just had 1 at a time due to it being early and making sure it al agreed but the foods in a lot of the ellas were in the after 6 months section so bit nervous of what to try her with?

Also did you give them all warm? and on there own of mixed with milk?

hey I have been giving my lo ellas kitchen pouches the 4 month plus ones and she loves them sometimes if they are to runny I add babyrice to thicken them. x

I am sure sown one will step up to help you soon just a small advice though
Most of the Ella's foods are a mixture of vegetables with a fruit. Try to give her some that are only vegetables too as lots of babies getting way too used to eat sweet tastes leading to problems later with them being picky or wanting sweeties all time etc.
Good luck with weaning exciting times!!!!

A little boy I looked after was weaned on these, but because he was so used to the smooth texture and sweet taste, we really struggled to get him to eat anything else. They're handy when you haven't got time to make your own but I wouldn't want to rely on them alone.

Thanks girls, see thats why i wanted to avoid jars as much as possible, i gave her the apple pure today but done mind that so much cos wanted to let her try apple anyway but want to giver her more savory " main " dishes, do they have fruit in all of them? That must be how they get away without having preservaties in them

hmm might just get some sweet potato and carrots and make my own now after all and just use the pouches for when im going out, although guess using the apple pure is the same as making my own so that be handy for adding to baby rice to make it a bit less bland

Also just to add she LOVED the apple lol couldn't get enough of it haha she would have eaten the whole thing had i let her lol

My Lo LOVED the Ella's Kitchen puches and started with Apple, Banana and Pear. We had no trouble moving him onto other foods, in fact he has a very healthy apetite and eats almost anything

We just literally go to tescos each week and pick a fruit and a veg and puree it up, now we are mixing the flavours together. He has ellas kitchen if we are out as they are really handy!!

i read sowewhere u need to steam them, is it ok to boil when they just weaning n still having bottle as main nourishment

ive started weaning at 22 weeks. i did 3 days of baby rice, then this will be day 2 of sweet potato puree which she loved yestersday. ive been serving it lukewarm. next i will do pear & baby rice for a couple of days. im follwing the annabel karmel baby & toodler meal planner but using the first tastes first week till 26 weeks

o9h my friend has that book and mentioned lending it to me , must see what its lik

I got the hipp organic potato and carrot for when i give bought food so hopefully it wont be sweet

Gave her some today and she loved that too, she doesnt even miss a drop could feed her without a bib shes so good at this eating melark allready lol

Not too sure how much i should be giving though, how much are you giving of the sweet potato?

We make our own but have used Ellas kitchen in the past. A good quick way I make apple puree is to peel an apple and grate it with a cheese grater, much cheaper than Ellas kitchen.

I would say try to avoid pouches and jars as much as possible in the early days. At least if you do your own purees, you know what your LO is getting. You are supposed to wean by getting baby to try one thing at a time and like you say, the jars and pouches have a mixture of 3 or 4 different ingredients in them so LO doesn't get to experience individual tastes. I use jars occassionally but only for convenience if we are out and about but to be honest, tehy have been a bit of a waste of money because he never finishes them and much prefers my home made purees.

I have been feeding Joshua pureed butternut squash, sweet potato, parsnips, carrot, apple and banana. Alays start with the vegetables because if you start offering sweet things straight away, they won't eat the more blander tasting veggies. You should always start with bland tastes anyway.

Good Luck
