Hi girls, thought I would post a test I have been reading up on.

I have irregular cycles so this cycle, I have been checking my CM. However I started to worry that I was confusing DH's swimmers with CM!

So I found out there's a test you can do to determine which one it is.

Collect the CM as normal on your finger and deposit in a cup of water - I used the bathroom sink!

If it is SEMEN it will FLOAT or DISSOLVE.

If it is CM it will SINK.

I will continue reading up on it to make sure it's totally correct so as not to mislead anyone. Unless anyone has a OH willing to... deposit in some water? :p x

Or you could just use OPKs... ;)

Aren't you scared that you are going to be running your ewcm supplies a little thin?

It isn't produced constanty, you won't replace depleted amounts. It's production is caused by a temporary shift in hormones.

It is an interesting bit of information, although i'm pretty sure in the past when i've allowed the semen to fall into the toilet that sometimes in sank and sometimes it floated depending on the density which varies.

Wow. I would never have even thought of this. This is the reason i so love this forum, i still learn something new every time i log on. I love all the different styles of advice, from the assertive to the gentle, the humourous to the miserable, it's so balanced and always good!

I will have to experiment next week ;-)

1Louise, I don't worry too much because I don't take CM from internally, only externally - I would assume that most of the cervical mucus would stay up there LOL.

From what I've read, a small number of people report the opposite in result but then there is also another way which I've also read about - semen dries quicker apparently?

It is only a guide, it's not set in concrete of what MUST happen, it's purely going by what I've come across while trying to read up on it.

I guess the other way you could tell is to test CM before BDing and then after although this would probably be time consuming and a bit stressful.

You could use OPKs, but for those who don't at the moment or in my case have chosen not to ( ;) ) it's another method.

**For those who try it out, you may want to test CM before BDing as I said and see what works for you.

Starfish - I learn something new all the time! Before I joined, I wouldn't have known infertile CM to fertile CM!! x

To add, needed to pee again, when I wiped noticed more milky discharge, it disappeared when I rubbed it between my fingers.

Not sure if that happens to CM?? x

Oh MissJ - you may as well use OPK's the efforts you are going to to dissect your EWCM; it would be much easier for you hun.

That said, I do like learning all about my EWCM as I had no clue before LOL!

x

Stupid question- How do you tell the difference...?

Another question... How do you collect your CM?

Don't mean to be grim, but I swear after we've bd, even after a shower, i have leakage (tmi!) the whole day. Yucky!

Lol Jen - that's what I was trying to do - learn something new about CM lol! I know OPKs would prob be much easier but I'm not using them at the mo.

Rachael - Infertile CM is before OV and after OV - usually scant, sticky, non stretchy so will break easily. Fertile CM is just before OV and during OV - resembles raw egg whites, can be clear with tinge of white, very stretchy and stretches over an inch or more without breaking. x

LauraAnne - After BDing, I tend to lay for as long as possible with the swimmers...swimming lol. I notice if I do, I don't really get a lot of leakage at all. x
