You won't believe this but I SWEAR ON MY LIFE IT IS TRUE! Background info: I packed up smoking just before I got my BFP (so it's been a while).

My MIL rang me yesturday because Hubby told her I was stressed and she suggested:

And I swear this is true!

Her: 'Why don't you start smoking again?'
Me: 'Er . . . . because I'm pregnant.'
Her: 'Yeah but EVERYONE does it these days and it does no harm to the baby'
Needless to say my response was quite harsh and to the point. :x

NOW I DO NOT WANT THIS TO TURN INTO A SLATE THE SMOKERS THREAD -
but OH my GOD!

Awww hun, you seem to be pretty unlucky on the 'advice' front :rotfl:

LOL  You're not wrong! I wonder why I have no tolerance for people these days!

What IS she on about??? Everyone knows the best way to relax is to get p*ssed - go on, crack open the vodka, it won't do the baby any harm! :rotfl:

Oh I'd love to only I feel that might cause a wee bit of tension betweeen hubby and me.

It's like that bit in Will & Grace (don't know if you've seen it) where Karen goes to slap the porn director round the face but stops with her hand in the air and turns round, puts a latex glove on then slaps him!

Oh yeah smoking when pregnant is harmless...it can only lead to baby being smaller than he/she should be! What brilliant advice you keep getting from people lol!

Oooh I love that scene! "You think I'd slap that face with my bare hand?!" :rotfl:

you should probably start on the crack pipe (I am not insinuating that smoking is as bad as smoking crack!)

Wow...that's amazing...complain???!

If regular cigarettes don't help to calm you down, why not try a great big spliff? Wash it down with a bottle of gin and you've got one super healthy baby!

In fact, if I were you, I'd eat a few raw prawns as well just to be on the safe side :rotfl:

Bring on the Stilton and rare steak!

With her gene pool in my little bean lord knows what I'm letting myself in for! She'll probably pop a ciggy in the babies mouth to stop it crying!

Oh my word I've hear it all now! Honestly.. what planet does your MIL live on?!

She sounds similar to my SIL who has four children and smoked through every one of her pregnancies. I also smoked before and when she asked why I had given up, I told her because I'm pregnant obviously and don't want to poison my baby... she just rolled her eyes and said 'Well I never gave up and all my kids are fine, it doesn't really do any harm'! Yeah not much!!!! :wall: :wall:

After giving up at week 10 (it was a struggle) I'm trying to avoid smoking situations. I don't go outside to phone mum during the day in case I smell smoke, I hate walking past shop doorways because of the smell and I finally told my mum why I didn't want to spend all day at hers yesterday after the doctor. It's not because I can't stand the smell, it because if I get a whiff of smoke I'm like Homer Simpson when he sees a donut!

Explained to mum how I felt and asked if she was planning on quitting. She said yes so I said "thank god or you wouldn't have been allowed to hold the baby within an hour of a ciggie". Now as for my in-laws, I think MIL will be in for a shock when I tell her the situation.

Seriously, everyone knows smoking is bad but it's bloody hard to give up. Why on earth would you start again????

Give that MIL a slap!
