I've had four appointments and seen two different midwives so far. At my last appointment I asked about antenatal classes an she said they didn't have any (I posted about it as was upset), well saw a different one yesterday and she said they are running them :? I was trying to talk to her and ask her a question as the 20 minutes I get with her every four weeks is my time but all she could go on about was the new computer system

Anyway, I'm not even going to see them when I have baby as I'll be going to the birthing centre in the next town so feeling a bit left all on my own at the moment.

I'm not overly upset or worried about it just again feel let down a bit.

That's pants. I'm finding MW's to be totally useless at the minute.

I'm 15 week gone and I've only seen a MW once so far and TBH she didn't do anything I couldn't have done myself!!

She blantatly told me that she probably won't see me again because she is no longer based in the surgery where I'll have my antenatal appointments but she still does home visits for my area and I won't be due another home visit until very late in my pregnancy. All she did at my booking in visit was fill in about 5 different form (that I could have done myself) drank her cup of tea then left! I was asking her questions that she couldn't answer and she didn't even mention that I could choose a different hospital that my nearest one if I wanted.

I'm hoping when I go for my blood tests, which are at 17 weeks by the way because I couldn't get in at 16, that I'll have a good MW who actually knows what she's talking about!

Can sympathise with you both - the booking-in midwife was a cow bag and the one i saw last week was really nice but still not my actual midwife so didn't feel like i could talk to her about the things i want to talk about. I gotta go again a week today to see if they can find the heartbeat on the doppler as bubs was hiding last week lol but am really hoping its my actual midwife i see  Thanks to some major encouragement from Sherlock I'm going to push for a home birth so I really wanna start discussing this NOW with MY midwife lol - pffft  It sucks that you feel isolated Hazel  will they not allocate you a midwife from the birthing unit? Fingers crossed eh that we all get a decent experience with a midwife soon :) loadsa love xxxx

Yep, I'll get allocated a midwife at birthing place but I won't even be going there for an appointment until 36 weeks anyway.

Funny you say about a home birth as the midwife mentioned it yesterday that I could have one if I wanted as she has a birthing pool I could use. I haven't got a big enough house otherewise I would seriously consider it.

 I had a similar experience first time around. I felt very let down by the bank midwife I was seeing as the surgery midwife was on secondment at a local hospital. Never to return. Shame as he was highly regarded.

I complained to my GP in the end and I got changed to another midwife who was fabulous. Then she called me a few weeks later to say they were moving her to the inner city, lots of internal politics around that which I won't go into. She was devastated and I was too because she was really lovely.

The rest of my pregnancy I saw one of two midwives who were great thankfully.

This time I've got consistency as there is only one midwife assigned to my surgery.

I've only seen her twice so far, I don't think that's unusual.

If you're not completely satisfied you are well within your rights to ask to see a different midwife.
