Right, now I won't go into my persnal opinion of the coil but I don't want one and I've heard from a few people now that the decision to have one is pushed onto you when you give birth, is this true?

I will be honest, I don't know if I've got this completely correct but I'm sure I overheard my colleague saying that they just chucked one in when she had a C section and then told her afterwards (don't quote me on that!)...

Hmmm  xx

i had one in for 14 years hun but when i had Hannah by c section no one ever mentioned it to me and contracepton wasnt mentioned till i left hospital at 10 days but i was only explained my options, i think it would be illigal to give you the coil without concent

I always thought you had to wait 6 weeks after giving birth before having a coil inserted?

I can't imagine the hospital would fit one without consent!

I had a mirena one for 3 and half years, it wasn't bad as far as hormonal contraception goes, but there were still side effects.

leckershell put me off ever having a coil! :talkhand: (actually not just her, a colleague at work was off for months in hospital due to coil complications!)

i wasnt pushed into any kinda contraception at all tbh! at my 6-week check, the nurse said i was highly unlikely to get preg again within 6 months as i was breast-feeding on demand and not doing any expressing/bottles and no dummy at the time. but she gave me a bunch of condoms anyway
none of the MWs who visited said anything about contraception. i used BFing only at first after researching it and it is 98% effective (same as condoms) article then at 5 months i went on the mini-pill for back-up, as the post-preg broodiness had worn off and i didnt feel safe anymore!
im back on the normal pill now iv stopped BFing

some women big up the coil, if u want one get it- but dont be bullied

The coil was never mentioned to me after having Harrison! Cant say that any paticular contraception was, they just asked me what me and OH were gonna use, I laughed at her and said that was the last thing on my mind!

I wasn't pushed into having the coil after I'd given birth. The GP who came to our house to check baby the next day just said 'I suppose it's a bit early to talk about contraception?' to which I just laughed :D . If anything, the community midwife was leaning towards the implant when I spoke to her about it. I had it put in but I didn't get on with it, I've heard that other people on here have had no probs though. :D

I had a coil for 4 1/2 years and only had it removed to start TTC. I would have one again after LO is born. It really suited me, but I imagine it's not the same for everyone.

As for them putting one in without you knowing  I don't think they could do that, could they?!?!?!?
